Using the spell hex

Let's say warlock is casting the spell HEX on a kobold using a dagger. Warlock wants to hex his strength to give him a disadvantage on his attack rolls. Since the dagger is a finesse weapon. Choice of str or dex on attack rolls. This use of Hex would not be useful. True.

yeah attack roles are the only thing made safe by something that effects ability checks.

Thanks you for the clarification because they list attack rolls under the abilities on page 176,

3 Types of rolls are attacks, saves, and ability checks. stealth and inititive are ability checks.
