| #1NoonAug 04, 2014 0:04:52 | The interuption for long rests. What does 'atleast one hour of...combat' mean?
You have to fight for a whole hour to have your rest interupted?
So if you got into a 18 second fight (how long most fights last, as I've observed) it'd be okay?
I've only just noticed the size of the interuption requirement - unless I'm reading it wrong? |
| #2AaronOfBarbariaAug 04, 2014 0:48:05 | one hour means one hour.
The point is to make rest interruptable, but not extremely so - and an hour is an easy to remember figure, instead of having some varying scale of things like 1 hour of this, 20 minutes of that, 5 minutes of some other thing or 30 seconds of combat. |
| #3lawrencehoyAug 04, 2014 1:05:06 | The 1 hour specification is suppose to mean whatever your group interprets it as, in concensus. At least until a more specific definition is actually published (and I hope one never is). |
| #4ShiroikenAug 04, 2014 1:16:35 | It means that wandering monsters and stuff shouldn't affect a long rest, but being forced to flee or take on a mid-rest expedition will ruin it. |
| #5NoonAug 04, 2014 2:22:51 | I'd had the impression long rests were quite fragile, but that's pretty much a false impression on my part, it seems.
Frankly unless you're driven into a retreat (as Shiroiken notes), you can be woken by goblins a few times a night and it's okay.
Here's a supplementary question - does it have to be a whole hour at a time, or if multiple seperate encounters add up to an hour, does that break the rest? |
| #6Caliburn101.Aug 04, 2014 5:18:13 | I think it reads poorly - and could be interpreted as a full hour of combat or other rest-breaking activity interrupts a long rest.
I have never in my life seen an unbroken 1 hour fight in any iteration of D&D, so inutitively I really don't think that's correct, but as written it could be...
Best to use common sense here I feel... |
| #7TheGimperAug 04, 2014 18:28:20 | It doesn't mean 1 hour of fighting. Its a list of examples of types of strenuous activity that interrupt a rest. They are:

| #13JRutterbushAug 04, 2014 22:06:31 | The point they were trying to make is that fighting isn't the only thing that interrupts a rest. You can interrupt a rest by walking for an hour, for example. Nobody's saying that a full hour of fighting doesn't interrupt a rest, they're saying that there are things other than fighting that can interrupt it. |
