WHEN do you provoke an opportunity attack in 5th Edition?

The 4th Edition rules were crystal clear about this, that one would provoke an opportunity attack when leaving a square that is within reach of an enemy.

 

The 5th Ed rules are not so clear. It says that you don't provoke an attack until you are leaving the enemy's reach.

 

Does this mean that I can move across several squares within an enemy's reach and only provoke an opportunity attack when I move OUT of that reach?

Yes.

 

You can move around an enemy, just not away from them.

One example is when you leave a hostile creature's reach without disengaging or being forcefully moved.  but as long as you move within their reach you won't provoke.

OK so flanking an enemy will be a lot easier than before. I can just move around to the other side of them from an ally, and so long as I have not left anyone else's reach, I am golden.

 

I miss "Shift"

Advantage reduces te odds of a natural 1 from 1:20 to 1:400. Now I don't know what planet you're from, but on Earth that aint a half :P

 

EDIT: In fact, Advantage/Disadvantage skews it such that you roll the top/bottom 6 numbers ~50% of the time respectively.
