Wild Shape question

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, have played 3rd/3.5 years ago and last year we started off on a new adventure again (3.5 again). I'm playing my first Druid at the moment. Just started to use wild shape and in our last session I found myself hanging on the edge of a tower by my finger tips... Luckily the battle was resolved quickly so my companions could lift me back onto the tower again.
But I wonder now, would I have been able to change into a bird form through wild shape, while not being able to use my hands? I can't find an answer in any rulebook or online, could anyone here  shed some light on this?

Thanks!

Yes, but you can't turn into a creature with a fly speed until you reach level 8. Wildshape isn't a spell, it's an ability of the Druid, and it doesn't require somantic components.

Is this a question about 3.5? This is the 5e rules forum. You'll probably have better luck in the "Previous Editions General" forum: http://community.wizards.com/forums/103106

Oops, missed that, it was indeed about 3.5, thanks for letting me know!
