#1 Undrhil Mar 17, 2015 22:25:30	This is a hypothetical question, since it may never happen.   At level 18, Wizard's get Spell Mastery, which allows them to pick a 1st and 2nd level spell and have the ability to cast those without using a spell slot as long as they have the spell prepared.   So, let's say that I am a level 2 Wild Magic Sorcerer | level 18 Wizard with Shield and Magic Missile as my two Sorcerer spells, and I have Shield scribed into my spellbook.  If I picked Shield as one of my Spell Mastery spells and I later cast Shield in order to trigger my Wild Surge, will that use a spell slot or can I cast it slotless thanks to Spell Mastery and it still count as a Sorcerer spell?
#2 Mad_Jack Mar 17, 2015 22:56:43	Just off the top of my head and without reading the relevant text, I'd have to say, no, you couldn't use spell mastery to cast it slotlessly and count it as a sorceror spell... You have two completely separate pools of spells and by the sound of it, you'd have to cast it as a wizard spell in order to do it without a spell slot, which wouldn't trigger wild surge because you didn't use a sorcerer slot to cast it.    Just my first impression, though.

#6 Kalani Mar 18, 2015 12:09:48	A sorcerer/wizard might have the spell twice. Once as a sorcerer known spell, and once as a wizard spell scribed in their spellbook. When preparing spells, you prepare spells from both classes separately - so you could theoretically prepare the spell twice. It wouldn't give you an advantage for doing so, but it would allow you to choose whether to cast the spell as a sorcerer or wizard spell (whichever is most convenient).   For example, if you learn't burning hands as a sorcerer spell - the spell uses your CHA mod to determine its effects. It doesn't matter that you might have a 20 INT and be a primary wizard, you still use CHA when casting your sorcerer burning hands.   If your DM allows you to scribe scrolls You can create a scroll of your sorcerer spell, then copy the spell on that scroll into your spellbook (destroying the scroll). It's expensive, but it is a way of swapping spells between your classes.
