Sub-question: How about cleric spells? |
| #2Jay_Ibero_911Sep 01, 2014 20:15:56 | Without doing a thorough analysis of the spell lists, I'd say it would "work" ok, although it would likely drastically alter the effectiveness of the specific schools as a wizard. You would also be turning wizards into healers as a side effect of that swap. |
| #3Project_VileSep 01, 2014 22:18:59 | Interestingly enough, my own group asked this same question, and we came to some odd conclusions.
Specifically, once you're a 3 INT wizard...you can never be anything else. You cannot multiclass under the current multiclassing rules. You must first possess a 13 INT to multiclass out.
But in this specific incident, it kinda makes sense. You happen to be so stupid that you don't know how to do anything else.
Everywhere else, the logic behind the multiclassing prerequisites falls flat. |

I'm tempted to take some of the cleric features like Channel Divinity and domain spells and cobble them into a Wizard subclass framework. The Invoker always struck me as a sort of divine Wizard, anyway. Then, I'll figure out how to whittle down the spell list so that the Wizard still gets its exclusive toys (and a reason to play an actual Wizard instead of a really Perceptive Wizard that can heal the party and turn undead).
It's trying to strike that balance between "This character wields the very forces of Creation" and "This is a Wizard that can also be the party cleric" that's the real trick. I haven't had time to really sit down and work it out, but it's on my to-do list.
As for your divine wizard, if you want to tone down the "flash" of spells, then you'd want to look at minimizing the evocation school. Or, keep it, but flavor it as something akin to Alchemy. If you ever played LOTRO, the Lore master was supposed to be inspired by Gandalf. It had a fireball-type ability, but it was the character lighting and throwing what basically amounted to alchemist's fire. Of course, you could always just have the character in question actually make alchemical stuff and use it (which will hopefully be in the DMG).
I don't really see a problem with your plan, though, apart from what's already been mentioned. You might just comb through the spell list and remove the offending spells and call it a day. Tolkien's wizards did seem to have some bit of druid in their magic, so replacing what you take out with some druid spells seems appropriate. |

So you should double check on which spells they are taking. |
