Hey everybody, mind if I have your attention please?

Its ironic. As long as I've waited, I'm at a bit of a loss of words, so
I'll make this somewhat brief. You know, you find the most *amazing* things
by hanging out on certain forums. Take the Kenzer forum, the makers of
Hackmaster, for example. It seems that in July, they are releasing a
product entitled "Hackjammer". Interesting, no? ;) Not too much has been
said about it, other than, in the words of one "whalejudge", it was "done by
three freelancing fanboys utterly thrilled to hear its on the schedule."
Strange how he'd know that, no? Almost as strange that I knew it was
coming...for a couple of years. Funny thing, no? Perhaps there was reason
why I was so busy last year? Coincidence, maybe? Anyways, you can read all
the gory details at:

http://www.kenzerco.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=HMGeneral&Number=671682&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=all

And what's more, this "nightdruid" on that board ;) somehow managed to
somehow guilt Jolly Blackburn into posting the cover image to this strange
new game. And it looks pretty damned sweet to me.

Is it July yet? :D

Looking forward to it, Night Druid!

And really, I think Hackmaster is a good system for the setting.

It'll be neat to see how much this works with classic Spelljammer.

now is hackmaster 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 3.5? I had no idea hackmaster even existed.

Hackmaster is in its 4th edition now...;)

Basically, back when WotC switched over to 3e, they had no further use of the AD&D rules, so essentually they licensed them off to Kenzer co, who made the game Hackmaster. In essence, Hackmaster is 1e rules with an adapted Skills & Powers build system for traits, flaws, & skills, and a lot of original rules mixed in. As part of the deal they have to add in elements of humor.

It boils down to if you liked AD&D and like a good deal of humor in your game, HM probably will appeal to you. If you want AD&D books burned at the stake, then you would probably want to stick to 3e. The humor element is not necessary to play, but does turn some people off.

sweet, one of my players is a 2nd addition natural but can't run a decent 3rd, he wats to run and always runs humour...like a planescaping kender with trinkets from the 'real' world hidden within his bag of holding(supersoaker with holy water)) and so on...........this'd be perfect for him.

Sounds like it HM does stuff like that, somewhat like 1e used to, but taken up a notch or five. Its an enjoyable writing style, but like I said, it grates with some people like fingernails on a chalkboard. Just depends on taste

I'd never run in it, but by the gods, I'd milk it for every pun the setting's worth

Interesting. Not a rules set I care for, but I'll buy this none the less.

I don't know if you're into Castles and Crusades or not, but it would be an easy transition. If not, then (as said above) milk it for all the setting info.

Actually, C&C is something I had considered. Older D&D stuff appears to be easily adapted to it and it's a simple rules set. Of course I'd have to make a few rules tweaks, but it looks like it'll handle house rules pretty well.

Since Mr. N. Druid appears to be involved with this, maybe we can get some more info from him. I'm curious to know how closely this cleaves to the original setting. What are the ship rules like? Will it offer alternate PC races such as Giff and Dracons?

Wish I could tell you, but I'm not at liberty to say at the moment. July can't come fast enough...

The system lends itself well to adaptation from AD&D, and especially to house rules.

It takes the best of all editions to make a streamlined system.

I have the book and I like it in spite of the errors. I just haven't had much opportunity to use it. Maybe I should start up a PbP C&C Spelljammer game and give it a spin.

The link seems to have ceased functioning. What happened to the thread over there?

Hmmmm...probably because the thread grew to something like 15 pages. I think the View All function ceases to work on threads larger than 10 pages.

If anyone's interested, I've gone ahead and done this: http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=188038 . Figured I might as well post a link, since this thread's been revived.

Hmmmm, I don't have an RPG.net account, so what is the title of the thread you're trying to post? Is it the "Future of Hackmaster" thread, or some other thread? When I click the link, it wants me to sign into RPG.net and doesn't give me the option of skipping that.

A play by post game I mentioned thinking about doing earlier in the thread. Sorry for being a little off topic.

No problem. I was just curious if there was a thread on RPG.net that I wasn't aware of, and since I don't visit that site often, that was likely.
