For the campaign I am currently apart of my DM has created a site and with it a complete...or near complete, campign setting for a spelljammer game. Even if you don't like spelljammer it is still very cool. There are completely original histories of the races as well as new weapons, magic items, forums, journal entries by the players, and art and stories.

Just a quick reminder that everything on the site is copyrighted...so with no further ado, the website:

P.S. drop on into the visitors forum and let us know what you think.

Wizards has stolen far too many of my ideas for me to leave them unprotected anymore.

Well, since Spelljammer belongs to WotC i wonder who's truly the one stealing something

Well considering we're covered by the open gaming liscense it sure isn't us.

Also this is being said in the past tense.

Since none of the Spelljammer material is available under the OGL, that's not going to help you. You're still bound by Wizards' rules for converting older D&D material.

In addition to the fact that Spelljammer isn't OGL, as Kesh has pointed out, I get the impression that you don't really understand the OGL at all. You write that "All information on this site is COPYRIGHT, unless it is already protected by open gaming license." The OGL is not a subsitute for copyright. Anything you write is copyrighted by default; the OGL gives provision for other people to legally ignore this copyright within certain guidelines. The entire purpose of the OGL is to allow people to use your stuff without permission as long as they give proper credit. Furthermore, use of the OGL requires you to post a copy of the OGL on your site, and indicate what materials are designated Open Content. You haven't done that as far as I can see.

I never expected my players to post the site in these forums, so I didn't bother ACTUALLY covering any of my bases, because I figured the only people who would see it would be people we knew. I just wanted THEM to know that our ideas are OUR property and not the property of anyone else. Since my players decided to post the link here, I'll begin changing the site over to a more legal one.

Further, Spelljammer is a campaign setting which I'm playing in D20, regardless of who owns it or how it can be changed for d20 it is a private campaign and I will run it as I see fit. Wizards, however, took my idea for a feat without so much as a how d'you do...copying it practically word for word, but since I didn't put any copyright on it I can't say it was mine, or it was stolen. So what I am telling you right now is that the Copyright material is the stories, journals, magic items, new items and artwork. I'll get to posting the open gaming license ASAP.

In any event, thanks for visiting the site.

Out of curiosity, what feat was that?

My understanding of copyright (and I should point out that I'm not a lawyer) is that any original work you create is copyrighted regardless of whether you put a copyright notice on it. The difficult part is proving in court that you created it first -- that takes a lawyer, and lawyers take money. That's true whether you used a copyright notice or not. I could steal someone else's work and slap my own copyright notice on it, but it wouldn't make it mine, even if the original author had failed to post a copyright notice.

It was the "Beast Companion" feat from the Epic Level Handbook...one of their playtesters used these forums to ask for help in playing a fun druid...I told them about the feat that I allowed one of my players to use...6 months later the epic level handbook was released and lo and behold...my feat...and no credit to me...they changed the name and worded it a little better...

Now to the point behind this thread...my player's heart was inthe right place, spreading the word of the campaign as I asked him to...I didn't expect him to post here. I also didn't expect for people to focus on the fake copyright thing I had and totally ignore all the real work that has gone into the site and campaign. In the journals alone there is probably 4 days worth of work...then look at the stories, and the new items...and yet you focus on the fake copyright...give us feedback on the site itself. If you REALLY need to attack the site...find something of substance and attack THAT
