Before you stands a magnificant castles. Standard of various mercenary and army units decorat the front of the castle, while the sounds of soldiers training can be heard from the inside.

I decided that, instead of trying to make a new guild with a new name, I'll just revive an old guilds name.

Basicly, the idea of the Academy is to promote the expantion of the Martial classes. This is through the creation of items, feats, and classes.

Tbur walked through the halls, his sowrd at his side. These halls have been emoty for too long. Where have the warriors who defended the land gone? Have they retired? He gazed down into the empty hallway, as if expecting an answer.

Form the dark came a voice. A deep, profound, and really weird voice.

Yes, pretty much. I was taking a breather in another dimension, called abyss, but it was way boring.

From the shadows emerge a familiar (or not) figure, wearing blue robes and a yelow ponity hat.

Very interesting place you got here. Are you hiring mages?

I'm Black Mage, Master of black magic, member of the council of archmages (currently off duty), and master of other dark arts, like fireballs, and other spells.

I don't even remember what character I had here, but I'm pretty sure he died. I'm too tired to RP right now, anyway.

So, it would be neat to see this guild be revived. It's been awhile since we had a group to decide martial tactics and combat and the like.

I suppose for a topic I'll put forth this: What sorts of PrC's/feats/etc. do you think work best for a military campaign? This can range from the warlords to the common footsoldier, from medics to special forces and the like. If you have homebrew material of your own, by all means post it up.

Hi ho! What's this place? Looks like some kind of training grounds. The name's Captain Shar, and I'd be obliged if you told me what this place is, and whether it or the surrounding area has any interest in trade, or any pirates to be hunted down.

A slim, tanned woman in a purple coat marches up to the front and enters the main area of the academy. Her black-and-pearly ship is anchored at the shore.

Kaer-Thok rests with his back against the wall just inside the door. As Shar passes him he clears his throat.
"Apparently, this place is abandoned. I've not seen anyone here for quite a while so I figured I'd make it my home for the time being. It looks as though the place was a training ground, but where the trainees are I'm not sure. Perhaps they are simply away for the time being. Perhaps an instructor had no choice but to lead them on a dangerous mission for king and country. Or perhaps everyone simply grew tired and walked away. A pity, there are so many spell slingers in this world today, those who train in hand to hand combat are a welcome change. Here I thought I'd find a good challenge here."

Kaer-Thok! I'm glad you made it here, then. This is the place I meant, though I hadn't seen it before. Abandoned academy's don't usually have much in the way of exports, so I'll be off again as soon as we've gotten fresh water aboard. I'd offer to fight you myself, but I don't aim to get myself killed, and frankly, Waken was more of a dedicated fighter than I am. Unless, of course, you count the effort I've put into training my entire crew to work as a small army. But I could stand a little sparring; lately I've just been fighting monstrous folk who like to squeeze my ribs a little too hard.

"In all honesty, I did not realize that there were no protective wards activated. I had heard that it was how things were done around here. But, it would seem I was mistaken. If you would like, we can duel, and attempt to pull our strikes before they are deadly. Though that gives much less accuracy to a blow."

Tibur landed infront of the two, cleaning Kamate off of blood. Ah, we finaly have people here? Welcome, welcome. I am Tibur Kaesk'Usk, leader of the Iron Dragons, and currently in charge of this academy. Exports? Well, we have fresh young blades that need to learn the ways of the world and gain experience for themselves. I myself have just returned from the slaying of a mountain landwyrm that was terrorising the mountains.... Come, come. As he spoke, he replaced the sword, putting it away next to the spear.

Kaer-Thok: What is the function of such a ward? Does it prevent death, or just prevent the soul from departing? If it prevents death, by all means I should enjoy a duel. Otherwise...well, I'll think on it. I doubt being killed by the killer of my best friend would be a pleasant experience.

Tibur! So this is where you ran to after abandoning the fight with the squids. Glad to see you've regained some dignity. Would these find young blades be wanting passage, then? That I can provide, along with a little orientation to most of the cities they'd be wanting to stop at.

"The wards are as those on the Mountain Top Arena, which exists near my homeland. I believe there is a version in existance here as well. When one battles, the battle is non-lethal. When one is wounded in the duel, then one does not die, but rather falls unconcious. The same goes for spells as well as physical attacks. Of course, this would involve heading to the arena since I doubt there are any simple locations in the area that hold such powerful magics."

May 02, 2007 15:39:55
Truth be told I have not heard of such a place here; formal duels often keep a cleric nearby for the resurrection of the loser. But is your Mountain Top Arena anywhere near a deep river? I'm on an exploratory expedition; we could sail there. Or perhaps one who knows - ah, I bet the merchant of wondrous wares would know. He's lived here his whole life, and if anyone would know about a powerful magical place, he would. Perhaps there is another such place nearer to here.

(I don't think any of the arenas are nonlethal, but I'm not averse to changing that.)

((The Mountain Top Arena is in the Legends of the Guilds section. It does indeed exist here, Orcy created it himself in the first guild wars, even before them actually.))

Rivers flow from the mountains, and some ranges are so high and broad and yield such snowmelt that the river may be deep enough for a ship and yet be in the mountains. But if there is a portal - that would certainly be fast enough for me to try before sailing on.

A man in black pants, boots, and gloves spins around once the door is opened. He looks around with the one eye visible underneath his hair and opens his mouth to say something, dropping the plate that he had been holding with his teeth. Wincing at the sound of the plate crashing to the floor he slowly sets down a bag that makes a similar metal-on-metal sound.
"Uh... hi... thought this place was abandoned. Heh... uhm... I'll be... going then."

Tibur fell out of a hole in the ceiling, his wings straightening and preventing injury. Found. Go through that door, take a left, go though the fifth door to your left, and there should be a big glowing portal marked "Arena", can't miss it.

In the Stronghold Builder's Guidebook, you can make a one-way permenant portal for 100k or a two-way one for 200k. This one happens to be a three way (50% chance going in either direction of landing up on Acheron)

"But really, I don't know, don't really care. Look at this, a bunch of lizard guys all ready to pull out their swords on me for no reason. I'd say you should all just walk away and let me pass, no reason to do otherwise. You aren't a gang of muggers are ya?"

The man looks around and gives his head a good scratching. Tapping his foot on the ground he makes a long drawn out sigh.

"But, good luck saving your boss, I'm not going to no achooran."

(Meh, if Orcy doesn't mind postponing the duel, I'll go to Acheron.)

Shar takes the hand up, and proceeds through the portal. She pauses at the black-clad man's odd statement.

(Spot - can't beat. But I may as well try a Sense Motive: 15 Worth a shot, but she doesn't notice anything amiss.)

Stepping through the portal for real now:

To Kaer: Er, is this what your arena's supposed to look like?
#34

"No, but it does look like quite an adventure doesn't it? Perhaps we shall go see what we can do. Or perhaps we will leave the kobold where he is for being foolish enough to leave a portal to an infernal battlefield in his fortress... no, I like the adventure."
Kaer-Thok leaps through the portal, drawing his sword swiftly as he lands in Acheron.
