Welcome to the Council of the Archmages.

We are the oldest foundation still in existence and we have always been one of the most powerful.
We were around before this whole guildwars or even this Guild House subforum was founded. Our original purpose, believe it or not, was the discussion and creation of all things arcane.
While the original creator {Archmage of Nethril} may have named this place Council of Archmages, I assure you all types of spell casters are allowed.
Everyone will have a domain. Upon joining, one must request a domain. One of the things that has been handed down throughout the long history of the CoA are the rules of the domain. Domains may not be too powerful and one specific rule that is incredibly old and was always being broken [but quickly fixed] – No race archmages.
For example: There is an Archmage of Fire, Archmage of Shadow ect. There is one exception you may notice. A famous Archmage was titled: The Archmage of High Elven Magic. This Archmage was not the “Archmage of Elves” but of a very specific style of magic that happens to come from the elves.
-Frostbite Ravenheart, Archbard.

Edited by Aramar the Black

Yes, friends, this is the 10th incarnation of the Council.

The Council exists both for those who wish only to discuss magic, as well as for those who want to take part in the IFWG (Inter-Foundation War Games).

As far as the latter goes, know that we have established our headquarters on Thalingrad Isle. The issue of Guild funds and resouces will be posted here as well, as soon as we get some things sorted out.

So come on in and stay awhile.

I would like to change my title to the Archmage of Aberrations.

So shall we begin the conversation of how we shall construct the guild hall again?

I think Lycan's post shall be very useful. We really could do a lot with our magic, thus saving money that can be put to use else where.

The Council exists both for those who wish only to discuss magic, as well as for those who want to take part in the IFWG (Inter-Foundation War Games).

*cough*
Fix'd :P

Several ectoplasmic serpents writhe out of the ground. One by one, they merge into the form of an ethreal elf, a serpentine staff in hand. Zik looked around, pulling out a pipe and sticking it in his mouth. Now, where d'ya suppose we begin? I would suggest we look for a place near the shoreline, on a cliff if possible. We can build both upwards and downwards from there. Once we have enough funds, we can requist the small amount of materials that we need from the Merchant's Guild. After that, it is a matter of time before we get a decent sized Guild Hall constructed. For the city, I am sure there are those who do not enjoy the recent monarch rising to power and would like to find some other home. It would be relativly cheap for us to construct small, two or three room homes to start a city off with.

Dang. Zik is at least, if not fully, right. We can't handle everything via spells since we will want people to come here. Either we pay for everything and have the NPCs build it or we spell construct it all and send out a speaking spell to tell everyone they will be safe here.

We should send out messages to everyone leaving the Proper telling them they can come here anyways, but if we tack on "Well paying jobs available" then we are sure to get more people.

The ways we can send out messages:
-Posters
-illusions
-Wizards with fly spells and loud voices
-word of mouth (news of safety and free jobs should travel fast)
-Well placed message spells (Sending and the like) (this would be another form of word or mouth; messages sent to high ranking people as they and their employees/followers/etc leave)

Either we pay for everything and have the NPCs build it or we spell construct it all and send out a speaking spell to tell everyone they will be safe here.

Or, we could do...both?
We could certainly build quite a bit wih magic, but we could also have NPCs come in and help as well. We could help them with their houses a bit, and let them do some work on the stronghold, to garner good relations. I mean, how many persons would want to say "I helped the Council's castle" or "that's right, Billy, our house has a nice blessing from the Council itself"

And, it looks like it's time for Aramar and his servants to visit the Tyranor bulliten boards again.

As far as the domain of aberrations....we technically don't allow race domains. (type or subtype)
I'd suggest changing to something similar, such as "aberrant magic". Would this work well enough?

It seems the spells wont construct as much of the castle as I thought.

aberrant magic will do wonderfully. I've relly been liking aberrations for a good while now (blame H.P. Lovecraft).

A single spell wont. A single psionic power just might though. Specifically, Greater Psionic Fabricate. Your average 15th level shaper with a 16 intelligence can manifest it 19 times per day, giving you 2850 cubic feet of fabricated material. All we need to do is find a mountain or the side of a cliff. We can easily build a large enough cas-erm, guild hall, if we just go outside the box a bit. We can use Wall of Stone to create the foundation/outer walls of some minor areas (places for students and workers to stay, etc) and then Fabricate up the inside such as doors and window frames. The cost would be for what? A single tree :P

I mean to bring Val into the Council soon enough, but he doesn't know fabricate or any wall spells other then Wall of Force. He will have the 50,000 gp he can give and if he studies from oe of the council spell books then he will be able to add to the spell construction, but don't wait on him of course since he is in Hades right now.

Off in the distance, a sailing ship can be seen. It's sail, shaped like that of a great bird, waves in the distance. Atop the main deck of the ship stands Ailuth, looking sternly across the sea to the island. Mr. Jeeves, find us a safe place to dock. Mr. Crown, shall we get ready to land?

This is, of course, assuming nothing (such as a kracken attack) happens on the way.

By the way: the NPCs "attracted" and "transported" while Ailuth, Aramar, and Von Crown are unstatted will have no bearing on the guild's status.

Acknowledge. That isn't to say, however, they could be recruited later is it? Also, what kind of price modifiers would Thalingrad Isle have in terms of stronghold price mods (lawless, etc)? What kind of reasources does it have (in terms of timber, stone, etc)? Finaly, Tortuga had a pirate city didn't it?

Ailuth stepped off the ship, looking around. Let us disembark then. Tell me, Mr. Crown, where would the Council be at? My ship can be used as a temporary quarters by my people, but I am afraid I have little room for civilians.

He walks with her to the others, talking as he does. "Well, from what I heard, there's those White Raven blokes, who I imagine are likely to be on our side. I imagine we'll also be able to count on aid from the Seafarer's Guild, which may prove useful. Unfortunately, I'm uncertain if we'll be able to get assistance from the church of Pelor, since your father seems to have rather upset them. Though I suppose if we didn't approach them as being from the Council, we may have more success, however I'm afraid I may be more of a burden than a help in that regard. Other than that, I can't say I know of any mercenary groups around, though I'm sure there are better people to ask than myself. There's another tidbit I think I should mention. I've heard that Tyrannor's been partially seal up, at least insofar as they aren't letting people leave without passports, which I imagine will be difficult to obtain. I'm thinking of calling in for an excavations expert, to smuggle people out of the city, and possibly pull some jailbreaks and the like, if necessary."

Ailuth nodded as they walked. Yes, I heard the White Ravens as we left. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that they practice some form of blade magic or at the very least get their name from one of the founding schools. It doesn't suprise me that father ticked off the Church of Pelor, he isn't exactly the most religous person in the multiverse.
Behind her, Jeeves could be heard writing something in a rather large tome.

"And here we are. So then, I imagine some amount of planning is in order, yes? I've got my eye on a spot already, for my own residence. But that's irrelevant to the discussion at hand. I know we'll each be having our own constructions to our various tastes, but then presumably we'll also have a common meeting place, yes? And of course, we'll need somewhere to keep our funds. I also think it would be wise to have areas where talks can occur without fear of watching eyes... Perhaps the main meeting hall, or some other location, could be secured against scrying?"

Tibur finished writing in the tome, bringing it over to Mordred. The plan is for a large plains area. The walls are going to be built completly out of hewn stone, a small feat when using magic to create everything. The fortress itself will have a single basement level which will house storage and prisoners. The first floor will be a mixture of combat training, meeting halls and dormatories (barracks) for apprentice level students. The second floor will contain the living quarters of the higher ranked students, various nonteaching staff (myself excluded of course) and a library. The third floor will contain the bath for the masters and a seperate room for each, with M'lady recieving her own room.
I have plans also for freestanding walls to encompass a hundred feet around the fortress. However, for that, we will need to see what funds are remaining.
He blinked, tilting his head slightly. What? I took ranks in Knowledge (Architecture and Engineering).

"It looks sufficient. I had planned on building a tower here-" He indicates an area on the plans "Since there's a nice convergence of ley-lines and a level one rift zone there. It's quite nice for my purposes, weak rift zones are common enough when you know how to find them, but rarely are there that many nice natural conduits leading into them. I could use the power from the ley-lines, over time, to improve the condition of the rift zone. So it'll be nice that my tower and the school will be close enough together..." He grins over at Ailuth, then addresses the other mages. "Miss Ailuth has decided to build a school of martial arts in our new city. I assume there will be no objections?"

Well I'm so sorry father that I'm continuing the training that has been in our family, training you had no muscle for. Ailuth said, rolling her eyes. But yes, I do plan on building a martial academy. To do so, however, I may need some assistance from the council mages. My father, with his current state, excluded of course.

We were originally planning on being overall neutral towards the king, but honestly, none of our members seem to be anything but against him. Though I have considered paying him a visit... In which case they must be dealt with. Though I will possibly not be able to do so personally, unfortunately. I am relatively confident, however, that with some assistance from the council the situation can be dealt with. And this would of course weaken 'his majesty'."

Orcy would like to take a moment to adress some metagaming that is going on here. First off, Von Crown, Orcy is going to have to ask you to stop sharing information Modred cannot possibly know IC. In fact, Mordred can do nothing IC, this includes casting spells, building things, or any number of other various thing that might come up. Being that he is not level 15. So in that regards, Orcy wants you all to completely ignore any metagamed information that you have been given, for example, the 'race' and whatnot of some of Sargatanas' followers. Once again. Mordred can do NOTHING but talk, and he CANNOT deliver information that the others would not have access to. Indeed... should Mordred start casting a spell or saying something that he cannot... Orcy wants you to imagine a big green guy with a club.

Ahem, I don't want to make a big scene, so I'll try to be calm an respectful. I did, at no point, mention any names. I'll now bring a quote as to what exactly I referred.

However, there are wanted posters about the city looking for a vampire... I believe his name is Thaspian Worgfellow

I assume that if there were wanted pictures around the city, it can be considered easily accessible information to any who've been there. From there it's merely a point of assumption to guess that there's a connection between said vampire and Sargatanas, but I don't think it's an assumption that stretches the limits of plausibility. As to building things, would it be acceptable to act as an NPC with an average modifier to Craft(Masonry) checks, and charge said average amount? I hardly think that's unfair.

Lastly, to be totally clear, I do apologize if, after taking that into account, it's still going too far. I suppose I may have overstepped in assuming the validity of the claim to those wanted poster's existence. Though it does seem to me that if those wanted posters didn't exist, it seems to me a circumstance penalty on that bluff check of the large variety would have seemed logical, since he was talking to Ra'nel'ek (Apologies if I misspelled that).

Orcy has seen nothing of Mordred looking over posters or anything of the sort. He has seen mordred in two different places at once. As well, he believes he has seen Modred discussing things that the OTHER mordred was seeing and knew about. This sort of thing is what Orcy does NOT want. No does Orcy want Mordred traveling places and doing things that he really shouldn't be able to then coming back and telling others what he has found. Orcy has seen many of these things done, some recent, some in the past, and he does not wish to see a repeat. There is an obvious opportunity and an obvious temptation to metagame and the like... Orcy just wishes to make sure this does not happen.

A large creature circles in the skies overhead. A draconic form, with a large wingspan but no apparent front claws or limbs save for it's wings. A long, barbed tail trails from it's backend. The creature swoops down, coming to land and roaring. It looks towards the mages that are gathered as a man drops from it's back, approaching the group.

The man is clad in varying shades of white and black. A mask covering the lower portion of his face, the cloth pulled around his mouth and nose and the upper portion covered mostly by pointed, conical hat made from what appears to be some sort of wood, covered over with a thin layer making it smooth. A large blade rests over his back, a number of rings set into the flat edge of the weapon. He stops before the group and presses his hands together, bowing.

I say the city of Tyrannor needs to come under new management. I was there for only a short while, but while I was there the entire city stunk of rotting flesh. But the question is, how do we go about it? It seems unlikely that the current ruler will give up his throne peacefully. Those who gain power never seemt to want give it up.

"If I have your support in this matter, I will begin developing a plan immediately. My suggestion would be for you and your magi to research spells that might have greater effect on the undead. Many spells that work with the light of the sun seem to do greater harm to the walking dead. Spells of disintigration as well may be a must to prepare..."
The man begins to pace back and forth as he speaks. Waving his hand infront of him as he goes on with the developing plan.
"If there are a few who have been or can get into the city and study areas enough to give us a good focus for teleportation, that would be helpful as well. A teleportation Circle would be the best for my intentions. We cannot hope to win if we are to assault the city's gates themselves, but if we can get inside without touching the gates we have a chance. The king is a powerful death magi, so it would be best if we have some sort of protection against the energies he and his minions weild..."

Still, he is a madman and must be stopped, destroyed along with his servants. The current ruler is a mad, vile tyrant. "Individuals entering the city and an army entering the city are two different things. If we are to wrest the city from the hands of it's necromantic master, we will need an army. Preferably within the walls of the castle itself. In this way we can take hold of it's borders and keep the majority of the city's foces outside of the castle's yards. We will make them seige their own castle to stop us, and if they manage to get through it would be far too late. If we are to win this battle however we will need magi... "I agree that it would be different to bring an army into the city. I'm not a fool; I merely meant that it could certainly be possible to get an army in without needing magic. Specifically, you send in smallish groups over time, as civilians. Then, once you've got all of your army in that way, you give them the signal and it really begins. Not necessarily a lightning fast plan, true, but I've found it to be effective in the past. Admittedly, getting them into the castle is another matter, but I'm sure that with proper planning, it might be accomplished. Perhaps if you can get the lord to leave the castle with his stronger guard members, then force your way in before they get back. Jeeves, you might be very useful for that."

Arioch listens to the others and sighs. He brings a hand up to rub at his forehead, shaking it back and forth.
"Perhaps this was a bad idea. My intent is not to sneak in and whittle away at these creatures. They are undead, they are by their very nature expendable to a necromacner. I also HIGHLY doubt that we can talk an ancient necromancer into leaving the saftey of his castle.

My intent is to strike quickly, and cut off the head so that they cannot bring more of their foul kind into the world. Be assured that if we simply try to take the city without killing the necromancer, he will simply make more from our dead. We must know what the current situation in the city is, as well we must know what these foes of ours have at their disposal. This will by no means be easy, there are soldiers within the city as well as the castle. But we MUST take the necromancer before we fight his armies. I'll not sit by and see my people risen as undead because we decided to take it slow and take bits of the city at a time. If you cannot agree, I will go elsewhere."

I, atleast, have no intention of 'whittling away' at the undead within the city. Jeeves will infiltrate the city and send us, by way of the shadowmancer, information on guards, the castle defenses, and the like. When he has done so the strongest out of us will infiltrate the castle by way of Zern. Once that is done we can hold the castle by bringing more men in. Once that is done, we take out the necromancer. We will need to distract the guards, perhaps with a disturbance within the city. Mordred, can your agent within the city create a big enough distraction? Assuming the worst and we do end up having to fight the guards, we will have to have a few tricks on our side. Where Arioch once stood, an unidentifiable fleshy mass appears. The bloody organs quiver for a moment, and then the thing turns upon itself strangely, and suddenly the pale half-elf called Aramar stands in its place.
He shakes his head vigorously, and then looks up to the departing Arioch.
"Hmm..he and I should really compare dictionaries someday. People die all the time, after all, and people get attacked quite often. Those are silly little squabbles. However, entropy is something much bigger to a person of my nature, and so I do feel some annoyance at the whole "homes being burnt" bit."
He turns to Zik. "No offense, friend, but you memory seems to have gone with your body. I was not the one who brought you all here. I could have, but lady Rayne was plenty eager. Remember the giant sneeze?"

Zik scratched his head. Ah, you mean the one that I missed because I had to lock up my lab? By the way, mind explaining why you can't help out a bit? I'm kinda dead here, literally.

Rayne yawns and wanders around the corner into the an area full of people wiping her eyes sleepily.

"So wait... who needs a lift to Tyrannor? I AM a Mage you know! I mean who in this council of arch'MAGES' can't teleport?"

Rayne giggles to herself at the thought.

Zik looked over, a smile appearing on his face as he vainly attempted to keep himself from laughing. You know, you could have spoke up earlier. Might have saved us some trouble. We need... 4? 5 people teleported to Tyrannor Proper? He shrugged. Eithere way, I'm going to go look for a cavern that I can convert to a lab. I might be reduced to a spirit, but that wont stop me from merging a de....erm, maybe if it's best if I not say.

Nice timing NS :D

"If I remember correctly we left Tyrannor in order to escape the grasps of the Undead King... Now suddenly we wish to give up building our new home in order to take leave BACK to the Necropolis? I'm confused."

Shoal re-arrives via teleport spell and looks around. "Sorry for disappearing without mention, I was asked to save some idiot nobles from the latest horrors spawned from the far realms. So, I think I just heard someone mentioning a big battle? Where is it and how many need destroying?"

Afer giving the message to the ship, they row back to the Ravens Song. Once the boat is secured to the side the ship goes further away then stops. Stil close to the island about a quarter mile from the shore. The crew begains to dive on the wreck there.

might as well start here, then move on to the reefs next.

Yes, we are. It appears there is a chaos in Tyrannor. We are going to go there to take advantage of said chaos of bring down the king. Now, if we are done chatting... Ailuth drew the bastard sword from it's sheath and made a quick flourish with it. Let's get to the part where we bash a few skeletons, eh?

when the crew is done the anchor is weighed and the raven song moves away. Once at the five eye reefs the ship is ancored away from the reefs there, the row boats with crews are taken closer to the ship below. they dive on the wreck this way.

Ailuth turned to Jeeves, disgust on her face. Well Mr. Jeeves, since the Council seems to be slow to take action, we must move ourselves. Ready the ship to set sail, we are to head to Tyrannor Proper. She turned to Rayne. When you finally decide to move, we'll be on our way to the Mainland.

Setting sail for Tyrannor Proper at maximum speed. ETA 3 days.

Rayne looks stunned and an expression of shock covers her face.

"Oh god... here it comes!"

She spazzes a bit.

"Every...body... take... COVEEERRRR!"

And with that she lets out an explosive sneeze engulfing everyone nearby in a a fiery wrath, and when the flames are gone there is nothing left of her only the spot where she stood is free of ash and smoke.

((*Casting* an Empowered Fireball and a Quickened Teleport to Tyrannor Proper))

Everyone within 20 ft of Rayne takes 60 fire damage; Reflex DC 20 for half.

Greeting fellow archmages!
If you can spare a recluse such as myself but a few moments, I have a favor to ask.

I have been redesigning the arcane casting classes (well, all the classes, actually), and will be granting wizards some sort of school-related bonus at given levels.
Example:

Evocation: Spells that manipulate energy or create something from nothing. An evocation specialist is called an evoker. Evokers gain a +2 bonus to counter evocation spells and have the following abilities.
Powerful Elements (Ex): At 1st level, whenever the evoker casts an evocation spell that deals damage, it deals additional damage equal to ½ his caster level. This bonus only applies once to a spell, not once per missile or ray. This damage is of the same type as the spell.
Energy Substitution: At 4th level, the evoker gains the Energy Substitution feat.
Spell Power (Ex): At 10th level, the evoker increases the damage cap of all his evocation spells by one die.
Lasting Energy (Ex): At 16th level, any creature that fails its save against one of the evoker’s evocation spells takes damage again 1 round later equal to half the damage it took when the evoker cast the spell.

Note that these abilites all directly affect the evoker's spells or how he casts them. There will be no extra (Sp) or (Su) abilities, such as an energy blast or energy resistance, becuase such abilities will be saved for the Evoker/Warmage/Energy Mage Core Class.

Now, what I would like to ask of all you intelligent souls: I am having trouble coming up with 1st level abilities for the Transmuter specialization and the Enchantment specialization. Have you any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks greatly,
Aramar the Black
