So I was looking at all the bar threads that's floating around this board and i got to thinking why not a modern cousin to the other threads. I hope this fits in.

Background stuff: This is a bar that caters to the whole D20 modern crowd so modern, urban arcana and dark matter. I know there is a D20 modern game board but this place seems to be a better fit for this.

welcome to:

Macs Bar

As you walk down the stairs into the basement bar thats set up below an old boarding house. The twin wooden doors open to a large room with a ornate bar set against the back wall taps and bottels set up behind it. On the left wall a fire place sits taking up almnost half the wall an old pair of boots sit on the mantel with a card proped up against them reading "Nicks". Thirteen pillars are dispersed through out the room 21 tabels are spaced haphazardly about the room with three chairs to each table. An ancient juke box sits at the end of the bar consisting of music that would have been hip in the 40's.
Across the cieling a carving of a pentagram wth symbols in each of the quadrants stretch from one side to the other. Thirteen pictiures all of dogs playing poker lay spaced randomly along the walls.
The room smells of pipe smoke, good grilled food coming from the large grittel behind the bar and wood smoke coming from the fireplace. A sign hangs above the bar "Take yer fight'n out side or I'll use this" with an arrow pointing over to a large shotgun hanging on the wall next to the sign.
A older man of big build albeit going a slight bit to seed. Stands behind the bar resting big hairy arms on it absentmindely polishing a beer mug. An old ivory pipe carved into the likeness if a beared sailor hangs out of his mouth smoking a slight bit.

(so feel free to go nuts with your modern characters)

shots can be heard outside. there is a loud crash, and someone stumbles down the stairs. it is a woman, and she is frantically reloading a revolver wile looking up the stairs. under her long coat she is wearing light armor (modern, like kevlar or something). her right shoulder is bleeding profusely

A man no older then thirty judging by his appearance walks in. He has a stainless white labcoat and a leather glove with some buttons on the sides. His goggles are tinted a dark blue, with magnifying lenses attached. Mysterious wires are connected to both the goggles and his glove, under his coat. "Straight vodka, on the rocks if you please." He then moves to attend to the woman.

Mac looks up he grabs for the gun but thinks better of it instead he grabs a small blue robin egg from under the bar and throws it to the cieling. It splatters and evaporates theres a small static charge like right before a thunder storm that shoots across the room the carvings in the cieling flare a bright green for a second and the gun shots stop.

"Don't be worry in' there lass looks like doc strangelove will help yah there. Who ever they were aint gettin in."

He pours the vodka out of a old bottel with Russian letters carved on it into a glass.

"Well you see, it is quite simple." She explained, T"he former commander, Commander Mel Hax, has just been replaced by a man named Gustan Mendar, who is completely corrupt. Mendar knew I would not follow his orders if he told me to let a criminal off, just because that criminal had given him money, so he told me my priviledge of being granted quarters at the police station were over. A young man stands against the wall, as though peeling himself from the shadows, even without moving. He wears black jeans with red trim and a black t-shirt. Though it blends into the shadows currently, he wears a black leather trenchcoat. His face is hidden behind a black eyemask, the only distinguishing features are his long black hair and his goatee.

OOC: By the way, does anybody recognize the name Harold Bukowski. It was just a random name but it seems like I've said it before on here somewhere.

"Interesting." Erebus says. "If you need assistance in your hunt, I'll be back after I catch this kidnapper. I have a feeling he's possessed and it wont be so easy though."

"Get the kid anything he wants, if'n he's old enough. If there's a room open, I'll pay in the morning, if not, you can rummage through my bag and find my wallet when I pass out. Here's a little something as collateral." He reaches into his bag and pulls out what looks like a gun with parts of the barrel missing.

With a slight nod, the man seems to fade into the shadows and disappear. Though moments later a distant creaking is heard, hinting that perhaps Erebus escaped through a window... or it may have been the wind.

Erebus wastes no time and runs along the rooftops in the direction of the screams. When he reaches the source, he spies from up high before getting involved.

erebus sees a dark figure in the alley below. the figure is holding two men, both twice his size, by the throats up above his head. several crumpled forms litter the ground.

The doctor walks to the door just after Erebus leaves and shouts after him to bring back anyone who needs doctoring.

(Okay guys, I'm on vacation. Just assume he meds up anyone who needs it, as I have limited access to a computer. Sorry for not saying something earlier, I've been gone for a week or so. I'll get back tomorrow.)

erebus can clearly see that the man's head is wrapped in a featureless iron mask. well, the dome is featureless exept for the off-collor metal disks where massive nails have been driven securely into it.
the man dropps the two brutes with a thud.
of course, friend. what might your name be?
he says, looking over his shoulder,.

I am the hand of the shadows, the watcher of the dark, I am this city's defender. The shadows seem to say from all around the alley.

Erebus himself speaks now, keeping his eyes on the large man. "What is your business with these humans."

buisness? they found me, or were looking to find me.

he turns to face(sort of) erebus holding his hands behind his back

apparently the last person I killed was important in the underground or something, nothing interesting.

he checks a watch that isnt there.
look, you seem like a facinating person. I'd realy love to talk to you some more later, but I have practically a dozen teenagers who need to learn a permanant lesson about playing with dark magic, and i was realy hoping to get started tonight because I just dont have the same effect on people at, say, three in the afternoon.

Erebus cocks an eyebrow. "Fair enough. Do you use lethal force in your lessons and who are you?" Erebus allows his eyes to drift to the two men the large man had been berating.

he shrugs
well I cant kill all of them, then who would tell what happened as a warning to others? but generaly some of them do tend to die. my..."victims" you might call them, have to already be a bit unhinged or tangled up in some serious black magic for me to realy bother them anyway.

he paces a little
so you dont have to worry about me slaughtering inocents or anything like that. I'm a killer and a monster, not an animal.

Erebus stares skeptically for a moment but nods. "By all means then, carry on your work. Though I have a feeling we'll meet again soon." Erebus closes his eyes and fades into the shadows, effectively disappearing from view.
