Hear that? That's the sound of a restless audience. They need a show...

The Battlefield is an arena for free-form role-playing combat between two or more opponents. It accepts almost any character, player, or team of characters, and runs judged or un-judged matches, depending on your preference.

By now we're assuming that you've looked at the Arena Grounds, read through the Map, posted your character up at the Portal, and have found your opponent and been cleared to fight. If this isn't true, then please don't post in this thread. Either go and check off that list, or just stay and watch the show.

If you have filled the requirements, then now is your chance to shine. I'll keep this brief, but remember: this is an In Character thread only. Confine all Out of Character discussion to spoiler blocks, or take it to the Stands or the Arena Grounds. Aside from that, you know what to do. Thanks!

As the noonday sun reaches its zenith, the gates of the Grand Arena open for the first time. Gleaming bronze sunk into white stone swings silently and ponderously open, and the stands begin to fill with a restless audience. Shouts of glee fill the air as the arena teems with life: only the battlefield remains barren. Its dusty floor stretches a mile in all directions, featureless except for a single column of stone rising up in the center. Around the pillar a stone staircase winds its way upwards, and, as the audience stares in awe, the famed judges make their way across the field and up the twisted stair to their vantage point.

A imposing figure in a sweeping black trench-coat leads the way, his blue skin and distinctive frost-tipped hair sending screams of recognition through the crowd. There are cries of fear and of adoration, and several spectators drop to their knees in prayer at the living image of their creator and god. Acknowledging them with but a glance, the great Aqua Blackmoon mounts the stairs and takes his seat, waiting for the games to begin.

The second man is less immediately recognizable. He too wears a trench-coat, but his is battered and stained, patched with countless different fabrics over the years. Hobnailed boots click against the stone steps as the figure climbs, wide-brimmed hat pulled across his face. As he doffs his hat and sits down, feet resting casually on the wall of the platform, the low murmur of the crowd rises once more into a steady roar—for this is Gideon Gideonson, Artificer Extraordinare, and few are the spectators who have not heard rumors of this man.

The two raise their hands for silence, and Gideon begins to speak, his voice rolling thunderously from the enchanted podium.

"Welcome to the Arena, ladies and gents! Judges presiding are the good Mr. Blackmoon and myself, although Mr. Blackmoon is going to be taking the first match upon himself—I've come a long way, and am going to instead recline in comfort here with a flask of whiskey and a cigarette. Not that that's at all relevant to why you came here."

"What is relevant is this: Ladies and gentlemen, allow me the great pleasure to present you with the first of many thrilling nights of entertainment here at the Grand Arena! Give it up for Charles "Coin" Anstron and his opponent Zachary Caine!

The crowd goes wild.

Twelve tons of shining bronze are thrown wide with a peal of brazen thunder as the battlefield doors open for the first time. The figure behind them stands framed in the midday sun, rays dancing and glittering off his brilliantly blonde hair, raven black sunglasses, and immaculate white clothing. All smiles, waves, and flashes of perfect teeth, Charles Henry "Coin" Anstron steps onto the battlefield, and the crowd loves every minute. A flick of his wrist later Coin holds a ruby-red rose, which he throws into the stands. A small fight erupts, and when eventually a young lady emerged, battered but triumphant, Coin gives her a sideways grin and raises his shades.

"Nice one, babe. After I'm done here, d'ya wanna claim your prize?"

...She swoons on the spot.

Smiling to himself, Coin strides towards the center of the arena, pulls a golden disc from his pocket, and begins to absently toss it into the air, sending it flying around his body like the best of jugglers anywhere. Finally, he flips it up to the judge's platform, where Gideon deftly catches it, looking at it with interest.

"Coin on field, guys. That's my card."

"Now...when do we start?"

A single chord is struck on a guitar and the gates on the opposite side are swing open forcefully, as if the sound caused a sonic wave that pushed them open. The fact that dust rises from the arena floor in a long wave in front of the doors lend further credibility to that theory.

The figure that emerges from the gate is not especially impressive to look at, a teenager in the clothing of the most extreme metal music enthusiasts. The crowd however rise in yet another roar, led by a part where black clothing and hair is vastly dominant, for his since the battle against Division, it was known to everyone that his appearance doesn't reflect his power at all.

The sun gleams in the metal studs and spikes on his clothing and the metal parts of the guitar as he strides forth with the confidence that only a madman or one born to immense power can in this arena.

As he is halfway between the gate and the tower that house the judges he reach into his pocket and pulls out a small plastic bag with some sort of dark brown shredded herb. He throws it with incredible precision, laying it for Gideon to catch.

"When you're reclining in comfort, give this a shot. Home blend. But if you do, be careful with the amounts or it'll shred your mind like the claws of Caben Duur."

Then he turns to watch the whole thing with the rose and the girl and as Coin speaks up about it he laughs a little and adds in his comment.

"What do you say? Should we make the honor of giving that prize be the stake of our battle?"

Coin grins approvingly at the teenager, as if some itinerant uncle had, on visiting home, discovered his nephew to be the spitting image of himself

"I like you, kid. You've got style. Remind me of me, which I also like."

Still grinning, he raises a hand and waves a finger at Zack in mock chastisement.

"But you haven't learned to make a bet, have you? You're not actually offerin' anything I don't already have."

"But as I said...I like you. So you're on, mate."

He chuckles to himself.

"Think I have to win though...you look a little young for me to allow you that prize."

With that, Coin snaps his fingers and the back of his hands blazed briefly with golden fire. When it dies down, a flawless image of a coin, emblazoned with his own face, gleams on the back of each hand.

"Now...what have you got?"

Zack laughs about the youth comment.

"That depends on where you're from dude. Let's just say I've tried a hell of a lot more than many folks twice my age. In any case I'm even old enough to claim it in the states back home, if only by half again a month."

Zack gazes curiously aty the coin for a moment and taps his guitar with the gauntlet encased hand while looking thoughtful. The perceptive observer would notice that a bit of dust near his feet rise with each tap, as if he was only barely containing large amounts of latent power.

"I've got plenty of stuff, lots of it less than legal too, but I guess we should get this party started, and how to do that better than with a power chord?"

With those words he played one of said chords with the claws on the gauntlet, and in spite of the lack of any other equipment than the guitar, the chord rung powerfully. In addition a sonic shockwave emerged from Zack, sending cracks in intricate patters through the arena floor and tearing loose a few shards of rock, which proceeded to speed through the air like arrow heads in all directions, carried by a momentum like that of a ballistae.

A single imp that had been foolish enough to fly in above the arena and too close was caught by the shockwave and hammered against the tower of the judges, crushing it and sending a shower of devil blood in an arc from the tower towards Coin.
