| #1myt3m0w53Jun 04, 2009 2:04:54 | This would be awesome!!! is anyone working on a modern adaptation of 4e?? Think about this!!! Cobra Commander was a Yuan-Ti!!! (Do you remember the episodes where he had his mask off?? or the ones where you saw his homeland?? He's totally a Frickin' Yuan-Ti!!) 4e Fire Arms?? Modern Classes?? Hmm... very interesting Any other thoughts?? |
| #2elondirJun 04, 2009 7:42:47 | As long as the cobras don't still LA LA LA LA LA! :D Check out GI Joe d20 for a d20 Modern adapatation. |
| #3myt3m0w53Jun 04, 2009 10:16:23 | d20 is 3e or 3.5 right? I will not touch those two systems!! Even if they were the hottest playmates and I had Ron Jeramey's 'Lil Friend sorry for that analogy but if I want a true d20 system i will play 2e or another game system completely I was just asking if anyone thought a 4e Modern like a G.I.Joe would be feasible before I start to do some stuff for it and try on my own to get a 3rd party to publish it... especially with the New LIVE ACTION Movie coming out |
| #4CCSJun 04, 2009 10:57:11 | d20 is 3e or 3.5 right? Of course it's feasible to make a 4e modern GIJoe game. Good luck on getting it published though. Especially since you'll have to license it from Hasbro 1st - who, if they really wanted it done, would just do it themselves under the guise of WoTC.... But hey, I'm sure that with enough $ spread around & the right alingment of the cosmos etc this could happen. |
| #5ZherogJun 04, 2009 13:10:19 | d20 is 3e or 3.5 right? That would be interesting, since 2e didn't use the "d20 system" since it was invented for 3e. Also, note that 4e does use the "d20 system." |
| #6elondirJun 04, 2009 13:11:34 | And that alignment of the cosmos may be the upcoming GI Joe movie trilogy. (I hope it's better than the trailer suggests; at least it seems that Baroness gets lots of screen time). |
| #7myt3m0w53Jun 04, 2009 13:47:37 | G.I.Joe is going to be a Trilogy? and they had a comic with the Transformers also... man theres lots of stuff you could use... I hope Hasbro does allow a Non-WotC company to use 4e GSL to make a G.I.Joe game... the task is far too daunting for a lone Individual *hint, hint*That would be interesting, since 2e didn't use the "d20 system" since it was invented for 3e. Also, note that 4e does use the "d20 system." Actually all d20 system means is that it uses the 20 sided die to resolve challenges... since every number on it can be used in 5% intervals... now what happened when you started needing numbers above 20? oh wait you needed a Natural 20!! I am not Arguing with you Zherog!!! but there are many different systems in use... most notably d6, d10, and d20 I was only saying that there are still games out there that have "True" d20 roots and didn't have to have "D20 System for Dummies!" |
| #8spawnofmorgothJun 04, 2009 14:17:40 | Go ahead and start contributing to a fanbase rules set. When ever TVshows/movies come out with merchandising potential the dollar signs cha-ching in folk's eyes and pricing for licensing rights hit the stratosphere. Remember the LUG game for Dune that Wizards bought up and was going to convert to D20? Then the Sci-Fi channel mini series and new novels series started hitting big and the project got shelved. I am sure the increasing popularity made the negotiations too unstable on top of the usual 'artists differences. The artists differences were likely they felt they sold out too soon/cheaply and helped encourage the license to lapse. So have fun and embrace the genre you love! Adapt away! I know when WotC's Dune D20 never came out I made a quick adaption using Amber Diceless RPG (both are intrigue based games so the translation was easy) and it went down well with my local gaming group. Sometimes you adapt a game based on stuff that should be developed but just cannot seem to get published. I adapted Hero Games to make a modern horror/illuminati/conspiracy game more than a decade before Chris Carter and X-files started. Sometimes you can adapt ahead of the curve and wish you had taken you ideas to Hollywood! Have a blast and share whatever you come up with! I am sure you will have an interested audience. |
| #9MechaPilotJun 04, 2009 15:38:47 | I think a D20 G.I. Joe or d20 Transformers is fairly contingent on WotC doing a new version of D20 Modern. Since it's being debated whether WotC will even do anything further with D20 Modern, this seems unlikely to happen outside of a homebrew or netbook kind of thing. |
| #10DragolothJun 12, 2009 14:25:52 | Goodman Games is coming out with a techno fantasy setting called Amethyst. It has modern vehicles and weapons from what I can tell, I've only seen the adventure book for free RPG day. |

What if they reinvent it with the SWSE rules instead? Or if they try to evolve the 4e rules? If the rules aren't spot on, one of the two will have to be houseruled to come into line with the other. Depending on how different this is, the amount of required houseruling may be extensive. |

You know, duck taping SAGA into a modern setting should work just fine, especially if you remove the Jedi. As for a 4E modern-style, while I am stoked for Amethyst, a genre that doesn't pigeon-hole archetypes probably wouldn't work so well in a 4E based system. 4E is great for genres that have core tropes, but modern, and JOE especially, doesn't really have the same idea of core "roles." SAGA is more the child of d20 Modern than 3.x (same core mechanice, different design philosophies), and that style of game philosophy works really, really well for that genre, where you can pick up a little bit here and a little bit there. Modern and SAGA really fully embraced the idea that classes in the first generation of modern d20 products were building blocks, not archetypes. |
| #14sfdragonJun 14, 2009 4:13:33 | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnuGhuNZnFs but in all seriousness, NO. to make it properly for 4e, and have it done through wotc, they would have to add the feywild, plane of shadow, elemental chaos. ( not to mention they would need particular PP for it too) so no, I do not want to see a 4e game done of GIJoe done for a 4E Modern, and nor do I think it would do it justice either, just **** off the fans of both. and btw, the only reason why I did NOT mention the underdark is that we in the RW already have underground cavern systems, so the underdark would not be much a problem. although calling it that.... |
