Covering all things 4E, Level Up includes adventures, character options, new monsters, Azagar’s Advice for Adventurers, and the endearing wisdom of Dear Archmage Abby. All for only $1.99! Look for the first issue at your local store in April. For more info, visit http://www.goodman-games.com/9101preview.html ![]() |
| #2asmodeur_dupFeb 11, 2009 14:07:07 | Will there be new classes and paragon paths in it? And I do not mean necessarily in the first one. |
| #3mourn_dupFeb 11, 2009 14:11:22 | Will this magazine have a relationship with other 3rd Party GSL adherents? For example, if another company published a campaign setting book, but weren't sure about having enough interest to warrant additional books to support it, would they be able to strike a deal to publish articles in the magazine, similar to how WotC will be supporting their settings through Dragon? |
| #4goodmangamesFeb 11, 2009 20:19:40 | Will there be new classes and paragon paths in it? And I do not mean necessarily in the first one. Yes in general and yes in the first one. We're here to please! |
| #5goodmangamesFeb 11, 2009 20:21:49 | Will this magazine have a relationship with other 3rd Party GSL adherents? If a company doesn't have enough interest in their settings to publish books on them, then there's probably not enough interest for Level Up to cover the setting, either. Our focus will be useable, interesting material of interest to 4E gamers. If that focus happens to overlap with another publisher (be they 3rd party or 1st party or anywhere in between), then we'll talk. |
| #6aljovinFeb 12, 2009 20:23:09 | I hope that it will be available in Canada, but for some reasons, I doubt it... ![]() |
| #7goodmFeb 12, 2009 20:32:33 | I hope that it will be available in Canada, but for some reasons, I doubt it... Well, all of our other products are available in Canada, so we'll do the same for this one. ![]() |
| #8aljovinFeb 12, 2009 20:39:23 | Can you tell us who is distributing, so that I can ask my FLGS to order it? |
| #9goodmFeb 12, 2009 22:06:46 | Can you tell us who is distributing, so that I can ask my FLGS to order it? Goodman Games products are distributed by all specialty game distributors, so your store shouldn't have any problems. We do a lot of business in Canada with Lion Rampant and Universal, and we also work with Mindsports, Dynamic, and the others. Hope that helps. |
| #10aljovinFeb 13, 2009 5:42:49 | It does, I'll make sure I can get a copy locally, it's one magazine that I'd like to check! ;) |
| #11Delazar78Feb 13, 2009 6:58:22 | is PDF version also available? |
| #12andrewjaFeb 13, 2009 7:54:41 | Sounds excellent. 2 questions |
| #13andrewjaFeb 13, 2009 7:57:32 | Sounds excellent. 2 questions Will you be distributing in the UK? Will it carry adverts (for me it would be a big plus if it did as the adverts in Dragon and Dungeon were one of the key ways of learning about new accessories like flip mats and alea tools markers). This won't stop me from subscibing to DDI but it sure will be easier to read on the porcelain throne... ![]() |
| #14goodmFeb 13, 2009 8:11:12 | Sounds excellent. 2 questions Yes for distribution into the UK, and yes for adverts. I also loved the adverts in the old issue of Dragon and Dungeon. We've already got some cool companies lined up for advertising which you may not have heard of! |
| #15goodmFeb 13, 2009 8:13:25 | is PDF version also available? Yes, it will also be available as a PDF. However, it will be cheaper to purchase at your local store! |
| #16aljovinFeb 13, 2009 10:25:46 | Yes, it will also be available as a PDF. However, it will be cheaper to purchase at your local store! Is there a reason for it to be cheaper at the local store? The only reason why that I could think of, would be to make sure that the local stores still carry your products. |

The only reason why that I could think of, would be to make sure that the local stores still carry your products. Maybe the adverts are only in the printed version, so the pdf price isn't reduced by companies paying for ads. Or it could be the payment for ads for pdfs work differently than the printed products. |

The only reason why that I could think of, would be to make sure that the local stores still carry your products. Here at Goodman Games we're strong believers that local game stores are the best way to spread the hobby we love. One way we can help them is by giving them opportunities to draw in customers. Free RPG Day is one way, our annual May sale is another, and competitive pricing on Level Up is yet another way. |
| #19rauricFeb 14, 2009 6:22:37 | Two bucks is a pretty good price. |
| #20Scars_UnseenFeb 14, 2009 17:53:05 | Might there be a way to mail order and/or subscribe? I live in Japan, and don't have a local store that I know of(well, there is one, but it is mostly stuck in the 2E era). EDIT: Should have clicked before asking. Second question, will you be distributing through AAFES as well? The BX on base has a small gaming section, and I've noticed that it carries Paizo products as well as WotC, so it might be viable. |

I'll make sure I request it locally! ;) |
| #22kairirosesFeb 14, 2009 18:51:33 | How often will Level Up be coming out? The site says that a subscription is 4 issues so I'm going off the assumption that it will probably be quarterly. |
| #23propaneFeb 14, 2009 20:25:43 | Will you be distributing in Australia? And if so, will it be $1.99 AUD? |
| #24jlaurhughes_dupFeb 14, 2009 21:03:52 | Well, all of our other products are available in Canada, so we'll do the same for this one. I looked at your store, and so far the mag states it's not available for subscription in canada, will this change on the site? |
| #25UndrhilFeb 15, 2009 0:04:57 | If a company doesn't have enough interest in their settings to publish books on them, then there's probably not enough interest for Level Up to cover the setting, either. Our focus will be useable, interesting material of interest to 4E gamers. If that focus happens to overlap with another publisher (be they 3rd party or 1st party or anywhere in between), then we'll talk. So, you are basically saying that you won't publish 3rd party stuff unless that 3rd party stuff already has a following? So, what if a new upstart wants to publish in your magazine? Since they don't have anything current (or just one, untried book published) does that mean you'll turn them away? Seems kind of elitist if you ask me. |
| #26goodmFeb 15, 2009 0:15:13 | For now our subscription options are limited to the USA. The magazine will be available in Canada, Australia, Japan, and other places via foreign retailers that currently carry our products. But foreign subscriptions will be uneconomical - shipping for a product of this size would be prohibitive. |
| #27cnathFeb 15, 2009 8:07:37 | So, you are basically saying that you won't publish 3rd party stuff unless that 3rd party stuff already has a following? So, what if a new upstart wants to publish in your magazine? Since they don't have anything current (or just one, untried book published) does that mean you'll turn them away? Seems kind of elitist if you ask me. So you think that getting published in a magazine belonging to someone else is a right? Sounds either elitist or overly populist to me. :D It sounds to me like they are focused on putting out content themselves, but that if there is content from someone else that they think will serve their readers or bring in more readers then they may go with that as well. If a setting/publisher has a following, then they are more likely to do that. If that is indeed what they plan, then it sounds like good business practices to me. Goodman has put out some really good stuff in the past, I'm going to trust them enough to give their editors a solid chance before I complain, particularly at that pricepoint. I called the lfgs and they are going to be looking for it to get a copy for me and it sounded like he might order a few extra for the store as well. |
