If something is a three-dimensional marker meant to be in the area of play but is itself an abstraction of a D&D game idea such as 'Close Blast 3' rather than a representation of an in-game element such as a door or troll, is it a figurine? |

I know the GSL doesn't allow figurines, but a D&D game is meant to have them. Are you not allowed to represent the races and monsters particular to your game? I realize there's an obvious problem with making an owlbear or any other monster that is distinctly the intellectual property of D&D / WotC. Could you release the rules for an rpg under the GSL but then also release figurines associated with your rpg's trademark but not under the GSL and not with the D&D branding? Even if legal, is this the sort of act that would sour a relationship with WotC? |
