| #2goodmangamesJun 29, 2009 22:22:18 | FORGOTTEN HEROES: SCYTHE & SHROUD More info at http://www.goodman-games.com/4401preview.html GMG4401, 112 pages, $19.99 ![]() Now’s your chance to play an assassin or necromancer in 4E! Forgotten Heroes: Scythe & Shroud hits stores this week. Purchase at a friendly local game store or buy online. Forgotten Heroes: Scythe and Shroud introduces death as a new power source for Fourth Edition characters. All of the four new character classes presented in this book draw upon the death power source: the assassin, deathwarden, necromancer, and spiritsworn may now be played in 4E games! The assassin is a dedicated killer that relentlessly stalks his victim, waiting in the shadows for just the right moment to launch a deadly assault. The deathwarden is a sentinel on the boundary between life and death who uses his shield to make sure that, when trouble arrives, his friends and enemies each wind up on the right side of that boundary. The necromancer is a student of death and undeath who is at home with the grimmest tokens of mortality. His dark arts give him command of the entropic forces that blossom when death triumphs over life, as well as the negative energies that allow the dead to rise again and wreak vengeance on the living. The spiritsworn is an armored knight who fights on behalf of those who are no longer among the living. His relationship to the souls of the departed allows him to draw upon the spirits to aid his cause. |
| #3carbon_dragonJul 30, 2009 16:16:26 | Do your 4e adventures follow the DMG guidelines for balancing the challenges to the level of the adventurers? The only reason I ask is I heard a podcast of the Punjar 1st level game that sounded pretty difficult. I got the feeling you might want to be several levels higher if you wanted the players to have a chance. Thanks. |
| #4stormonuJul 31, 2009 21:05:27 | While I'm not anyone official, from my experience (playing their 3E modules and reading/glancing through In Search of Adventure ) they set their game on hard, but within playable limits. |

Of course what you find hard my table might find just right. Hearing people's accounts of a game are definitely helpful. But you do need more to base your decision on. |

I just read your review. You don't say much about it. What do you remember about the first encounter? It seems to take place below some hovel with a stair that converts to a slide, archers on the roof, dog soldiers, etc. It sounded like the encounter might be designed to sucker the players into an unwinnable scenario and then pound them to death, guaranteeing that at least some of the party would be trapped and killed. Since players are loath to abandon their comrades, this has the potential of a TPK. But perhaps I'm getting the wrong impression. |
| #8Jack99Aug 03, 2009 13:26:15 | No, I do not talk about how hard themodule is in my reviews - What I meant to say was this: The Goodman Games modules are not walkovers (usually) but definitely not super-hard/impossible. This statement is based on reading all of their modules (and everything else released for 4e) but still just my own opinion. The link was just in case you were interested in my opinion some more. Regarding the encounter to which you refer, I must admit that I do not remember it. It's been almost a year since I read the module. I will take a look at the encounter later, when I get near my books. Cheers |
| #9Jack99Aug 04, 2009 13:59:32 | I just looked at the encounter - its a level 1 encounter (500 xp) where you can have a few adds (worth another 500 xp). Either way, without the adds, it's a walk in the park - with the adds, it's gonna be a hard one, but still easier than say the Irontooth encounter from KotS. I hope that was helpful. Cheers |
