GOODMAN GAMES TO PUBLISH 4E “AMETHYST” SETTING IN COOPERATION WITH DIAS EX MACHINA GAMES

Goodman Games is pleased to announce that it has signed an agreement with Dias Ex Machina Games to publish the 4E version of Amethyst, the extraordinary D&D setting that examines what would happen if a fantasy world of dragons, elves, and fairies suddenly appeared in our real world. Previously published under 3.5 rules and recognized with an Honorable Mention for Best Setting in the 2008 Gen Con ENnie Awards, the 4E version of Amethyst will be published under the GSL license from Wizards of the Coast, utilizing the Dungeons & Dragons Fourth Edition mechanics. The 256-page core setting book Amethyst: Foundation will be released as a PDF in April 2009 and a hardback print edition at Gen Con 2009.

Amethyst stops you in your tracks,” said Joseph Goodman, President of Goodman Games. “When I first came across the 3.5 product, I had to read it. The core premise is intriguing, the presentation is outstanding, and the world is a great place to adventure.”

“After the GSL’s release, we realized how it was perfect for our needs. It was the catalyst to creating Amethyst as it was originally intended. It fits better now than any previous system ever could,” said Chris Dias, creator of the setting and primary writer. “We are overjoyed at the prospect of working alongside Goodman Games on Amethyst. There have been no compromises for quality or integrity and the final result will stand as a proud testament of our dedication for detail.”

Amethyst: Foundation will feature a wide variety of new material, including races, technology-based classes, paragon paths, epic destinies, weapons from bolt-action pistols to plasma cannons, monsters, rituals, and a full history on the future of fantasy. The Amethyst line will be subsequently supported with a product lineup that allows players to immerse themselves in the setting. An introductory adventure is scheduled for October 2009, with a setting sourcebook and character sourcebook quarterly thereafter. Fans will be able to count on a steady stream of support for the product line.

Retailers will be able to order Amethyst: Foundation in summer 2009 under the Goodman Games listing as SKU code GMG4370.

I am very interested in getting my hands on this setting. Seems like it would be a good successor and upgrade from D20 Modern.

My thoughts exactly.

Now remember, we didn't design it to be D20 Modern so I don't want to mislead you. Yes, it can totally be used as one but our responsibility was to the setting and not to making a universal D20 modern system. For one, the science fiction aspect of the setting is only half the book. I mean, yes, we have plasma rifles and railcannons and power armor but we also have Cancer Dragons.

We are aware. I am looking for a sci-fantasy game specifically, as I tend to use Saga for my straight Modern or sci-fi games. Amethyst seems to perfectly fit my bill. :D :P

Oh that is perfectly fine. I didn't expect it to be a universal system. I just believe it will cover what I personally need to do in a more modern/fantasy setting

The actual idea for my world was fairly simple but very similar to the product description of Amethyst. My world is also the result of fantasy creatures and races appearing (or re-appearing) in a modern world. So I think this should cover everything I need, or at least most of it

Why not just play ShadowRun?

Why not just play ShadowRun?

...aside from the fact that I share William Gibson's opinon ("Cyberpunk with elves? Gag me with a spoon."), I have always considered the system to be rather lame.

I have a setting very similar to this, I might just scrap the project and pick this up instead. From what I've read of Amethyst so far it sounds like it'd be loads of fun.

...And I have never even read Shadowrun... But that's flogging a dead horse. Been down that road. I am sure it’s a neat setting, but Amethyst is not cyberpunk. When someone asks me, I always say, "Imagine living at home, watching TV, surfing the net, driving to work--all the repetitious actions that dictate normal life--and all the while, just outside the city limits, there be dragons..."

We have three dragons in the first book, Cancer are my favorite. We also got Death and Fallen. Holy, Noble, and Natural dragons are in the next book.
