#1 jsager1015 Sep 02, 2009 22:57:01	I am writing a piece of software that is designed to assist 4th edition DMs running a table top (i.e. the players actually there). It is designed to manage combat encounters. It will maintain a list of players and monsters entered by the DM organized by encounters. It will manage initiative and effects. It will track hit points and healing surges. It will also have an mp3 player with playlists organized by encounter. It will also contain lots of "popup" links that reference the compendium. Now, I am writing this software for myself, because it will replace two excel spreadsheets, a pdf, my compendium browser tab, and three dry erase boards in my tabletop campaign. However, with permission from Wizards, I would explore open sourcing or even possibly selling this software. I think its existence would actually be a huge win for WotC, because it will make the D&D playing experience better and encourage usage of the D&D Insider subscription - interfacing with the monster builder, compendium, and character builder *really* can't hurt them and would likely make them money because it would create significant added value during game sessions for DMs who use the software. I honestly have no idea how to go about even contacting WotC about this - googling just gives me a mountain of information that mostly predates the release of 4th edition, and I haven't seen anything definitive on this forum. For other programmers who might care, I'm writing my app with grails, extjs, and possibly Adobe Flex (but Flex could get in the way of an open sourcy solution). I'd absolutely love for WotC to offer feedback on this. FWIW, the app is almost ready for my game session on Friday (although hardly releasable, the UI looks like a traffic accident).
