| #1Rant_CaseyDec 03, 2008 11:21:15 | I've heard conflicting things on this, and I hope someone can clear up, definitively, how this will work: If a company releases a GSL with new classes or races in it: 1. Can they have the same name as an existing class or race, and be a different take on it? Say, a different 'fighter' or 'wizard,' a different 'gnome' or 'elf' (exempting Licensed names like Dragonborn or Tiefling). 2. If a GSL boon includes a race or class that WotC has not published an official version of (the Barbarian, Druid, Monk and Bard from Forgotten Heroes, for example) what happens when WotC releases their version? Will Forgotten Heroes by forcibly removed from the shelves? Will they be forced to change the name of their classes in future printings? If they are pulled off the shelves, it seems like it gives a short term sales boost to the third parties, as they 'won't be around forever,' but of course, limit long term sales or reprintings. I'd like an answer, as I'm concerned with the status of products like Forgotten Heroes. I'd like to see Goodman continue to support this product, and make others like it, but I can understand that if the GSL is too restrictive in these matters, they, and others, will abandon such ideas. |

As of now, violating content would likely have to be pulled. In theory this was not the original intent, so there are clarifications being made. Also, this section of the forums is not as busy as some others, so be patient on answers around here. |
