The New GSL Update Forum

Given the frequency that I have seen Scott Rouse and Linae Foster being directly quoted from the above forum (with said quotes often taken out of context from their original meaning) - I felt it was appropriate to compile a list of all comments made by both parties on the above mentioned forum.

Links highlighted in red are important comments frequently quoted by the gaming community, whereas those in black are either irrelevant, or personal comments addressed to one (or more) users on the forum.

This list has taken close to 2 hours to compile and format. I hope the effort is appreciated.

As Mike Lescault (aka Gamer_Zer0) has pointed out in the initial post of this thread here the questions that were posed by users of both the ENWorld boards and the WotC boards have been answered. The questions, as well as the answers to those questions, can be found here, for the ENWorld questions/answers and in the post here for the non-ENWorld exclusive questions and answers.

In response to the rampant speculation on what WotC may or may not do with the GSL, Scott Rouse posted a short reply here. Summarized, it says "We worked too long and hard to get the GSL, and spent too much time discussing it with third-party-publishers for us to do anything stupid. We are not going to yank it out from underneath anybody."

The information provided in the FAQs is the only information that has been released so far. Any speculation or commenting that is being done on the GSL by anybody who does not work for WotC is being done without knowledge of the GSL. In short, they are wild-assed-guesses, and are probably very full of the posters own personal bias. This applies whether the poster believes that WotC is going to use the GSL to take over or destroy the IP of third-party-publishers (because WotC is that damned evil), or whether they believe that it will re-invigorate the entire RPG industry (because WotC is that damned good).

Finally, it is important to note that the FAQ is not ntended to provide any sort of in-depth analysis or information that will be required by 3pps or people who may have to decide to work under its auspices or not. Rather, it is a brief look at the most common questions that people asked about it.

Now that the GSL is out a lot of these same concerns are being raised, perhaps if Scott or Linae could address these in light of the document itself?

if you think about it, as agents/employees of WotC, Scott and Linae would have to be nuts to start answering specific questions about the GSL (i.e. give out information that others might rely on in interpreting the document). That's something the legal department might do, but even then I suspect it will be limited and maybe we'll see more official FAQs or something.

Over on ENWorld, a poster has made a GSL for Dummies thread that Liddae has said (in another thread) is pretty good.

Just so that everyone knows, I plan on asking this thread to be un-stickied ina couple of days. With the text of the GSL released now, this thread is no longer needed. I will sticky the "Questions for Scott Rouse" thread until the questions are answered, and then sticky that post instead.
