| #1TabularasaDec 03, 2008 11:14:19 | According to EnWorld, WoTC has just undergone a round of layoffs. Among those who lost their jobs were:
My thoughts go to those individuals and their families. It is an horrible time for everyone and the econmy is really crap. Best of luck |
| #2kythriDec 03, 2008 12:09:02 | Wuh?! Tweet & Noonan fired, Heinsoo kept? Julia Martin is another ex-TSR person being canned, too. This is weak. ![]() |
| #3wychlorneDec 03, 2008 12:43:16 | Wuh?! My thoughts exactly. Maybe if they had made 4E better their sales would have been better and they wouldn't have to lay-off staff. Let this be a lesson to you, WotC. Incidentally, I guess I can set aside my dreams of being hired by them now that they've started to fire people. Which sucks, because I had even baked them a cake in the shape of the Internet... |
| #4ranger_regDec 05, 2008 14:44:08 | No surprise there, though I think Mr. Tweet may have volunteered himself to be let go for a better career opportunity, though risky in this economic climate. Besides, it happened before, back in Winter of 200-2001, when 3e came out that Summer. |
| #5The_JesterDec 06, 2008 11:34:14 | I just feel sorry for whoever gets the Solace position. It's been first on the block twice, taking that job is a death sentence (and shows how much WotC feels they need to interact with their fans). |
| #6joydyheeDec 06, 2008 20:49:00 | Among those who lost their jobs were: Does it say when these take effect? Randy wrote the Digital Insider on 12/3/2008. |
| #7rmcdougaDec 07, 2008 10:09:35 | I expect that these are written well in advance of being posted, so it was almost certainly written before he was laid off. This is typical of large web sites where the content is provided to the web team, who stages it before releasing it to the web. From the comments of those laid-off, I believe that everyone left the same day they were informed they were being laid-off. |
| #8rauricDec 07, 2008 10:34:56 | There is a recession going on in AMERICA and layoffs are happening everywhere. They would have been layed off if 3E was still what they were pushing. This is not a WOTC thing, it is a national thing. It is called the real world. It kinda sucks all across the board for everyone. Anyway it is a shame it happened and heopefully they can get some freelance gigs with WOTC and other companies as well. Hell this might be a second job for some of them as it is. |
| #9Elemental_ElfDec 07, 2008 13:19:10 | We've known about this for about a week now. Its really sad news. Most of the people laid off were members of the Digital Team, which is in most part due to the fact that the Digital stuff hasn't been a stellar success (Gleemax, etc.). WotC's downsizing because the higher ups decided to contract the digital stuff off to a 3rd party company. Noonan and Tweet were a surprise... if you listen to the latest Podcast, the producer also mentions the sad news of Noonan being laid off. I had hoped they would keep bringing Noonan back just to do the podcasts but, obviously, my hopes were dashed ![]() |
