Post your ideas for neat and interesting character quirks and mindsets, have fun! Hopefully someone will find one they like and use it someday!

1. Bemused rogue who has no idea how NPC's small , worthless trinkets keep ending up in his pockets and bags.

2. Dwarf who thinks he is an elf, nobody ever told him different as he was born amoung elves. When told he is a dwarf he replies, "Nonsense, my elven senses tell me you are trying to fool me!"

3. Kobold who follows the group dragonborn around endlessly and in awe of their might. Worships their every idea and runs around doing everything for the dragonborn, whether wanted or not!

4. Any character whom thinks he has an intelligent item and talks to it

5. Goblin who was brought up in the sewers; named something pitiful like "Runt", and has the self esteem of a rotten sausage

6. Eladrin brought up in prep school who has never set a foot outside of polished buildings before (better still if he/she adventures with #5)

7. Human who thinks he is a vampire and has an addiction to blood

8. A normal, level 5 commoner...who has an alternate ego of a level 25 Wizard that can take control if he gets annoyed.

9. A captain of a boat who has at least 37+ multiple personalities, with whom he converses and argues with. And one of them is a young child, just so he can constantly shout out: "I will turn this boat around right now!"

10. The first understanding/imagination of a situation that comes to mind is what the character believes is real.

My rogue has this. Usually he mishears things and is unable to correct that. He heard of Sister So-and-so of the local temple to Erathis and he now believes the temple basement has a bunch of sisters -- twins and triplets maybe. Now he wants to join the church, cause this sounds exciting. The Sister explains it's not so glamorous, it's mostly feeding the poor and scrubbing floors. He mishears again as "scrubbing the poor", and now he's taken a bucket and sponge to the local homeless.

11. Yaka, a Halfling raised by a blind Drow who believed him to be one of the many Driders, Lolth's favorites. The blind Drow warshipped him, gave him Spiders and many riches, then eventually walked into a Black Pudding, leaving the child behind.

He eventually escaped the Underdark, after eating many bugs and fungi along the way. Because of the awkward first few years of his life, he's difficult to talk to. Yaka says things like, "Bow dow lessers!" and "My spidey sense is tingling!" He wishes to return to the Underdark, since the Surface Dwellers fail to recognize my supremcy

12. Moisimo

Moisimo is a depressed, intelligent item. A +6 Battleaxe with an alignment of CG to be exact. He's owned by the executioner of a LE Community. Moisimo is going insane rather quickly. He now has indepth conversations with himself about morals, powers, and respondsibility.

13. Gnomish pyromaniac spellcasters are always a favorite.

14. Human Foreigner. Use a character class that no one else has, talk with some kind of outrageous accent, and constantly make social commentary about the strange customs of the people you are with.

15. Outrageous Storyteller (e.g. Jan Jansen). Play a character who has already had a long adventuring career or who is part of a family full of people with long adventuring careers. Any situation that you get into can somehow be related to a weird story about you or one of your relatives.

16. Redshirt. This kind of character might be a little difficult to convincingly play on purpose without annoying the party, but if you can play that one guy who ALWAYS gets killed or seriously injured no matter where he is or what he's doing, hilarity may ensue.

Thank you all for posts, heres another:

19. A paranoid goblin who thinks that his world is an illusion, controlled by a bunch of kids rolling dice.

20. A spellcaster with an irrational fear of the element most his spells are based on.

21. A ranger with a spider companion and a deathly fear of spiders!

22. In 3.5, i played an elven/thief mage who was quite insane and thought he was a god (of thieves), right from level one. Would walk around town and introduce himself as one. Go into temples and give guidence, would take money from the donations (ahem, steal) because it was donated to him (or so he believed). Ran into an elder dragon (good one, bad one would have killed me) and told him to "hang in there and one day he'll be a god like i am". Not to mention would randomly tell fond stories of other gods of "when they were young upstarts" just to encourage the masses. it was quite fun especially making up back stories for gods even if the stories werent true. I believe they were. It was great.

I am SO using that goblin in #19!

34 A voluptuous orc who is the renowned singer at the local opera. As we all know, it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings!

35 A paladin with a dire wolf mount... and he's constantly afraid it'll eat him.

36 A bald gnome ranger with a staff that shots fireballs; who insists you 'be vewy vewy quiet' because he's 'hunting wabbits'.

37 A monk who wears a red helmet and blue robes while wielding fire enchanted gauntlets, and taunts his enemies by saying 'Show me your moves!'

38 Wear red, blue or green full plate and use magic rods/staffs/staves/etc. After killing enemies, teabag them and call them noobs.

39 Play a 5th level wizard, 6th level sorcerer, or 5th level cleric with the Travel domain. Say you wear blue tights and a red cape. After the 1st combat encounter, tell your party "Well citizens, my work here is done!" Cast fly and take off into the sky. Innocently ask the DM if you should roll a new character now.

52) Chameleonoid Dragonborn - Scales can change colors, and make some simple patterns. Looses control of this ability while under stress or angry, which is frequent. Perhaps the colors are embarrassing, such as turning bright pink while angry, or turning the wrong color when failing a stealth check.

I recently attempted to make the most GM-annoying character ever, here is the result :

Half-Elf Bard

CE

SEEN

King Barkuuloxx the Broken, Entertainer to the Stars and Concert of
Queen Underpants

Is either mad, or affects to be mad, and deals with various people in
various different ways.

He will regard some people as 'friends' and dubs them 'Subjects of King Barkuuloxx'.
These people he will never play tricks on, or do harm to in any way. In fact,
he will insist that they take all his possession and all of his gold.

Others he will regard as 'enemies' or 'potential enemies'. These he terms
'wooblers' and 'woozubs' respectively. He will play tricks, steal from and
even kill wooblers, but will treat woozubs with deep mistrust.

He has a large wardrobe of cheap clothes. Each day he will dress as a
different character class, even a bard sometimes. But it could be wizard
or fighter. He will affect the mannerisms and style of that class,
but in a very stereotypical way. However, if he is in any trouble or needs
to help out a 'loyal subject' he will revert back to behaving like a bard
as self-preservation kicks in.

In all other regards he behaves as if he is the exiled king of some far off land.

If anyone tries to pin down the location or even the name of this kingdom he will
make up some elaborate story on the spot.

He may elect to speak with a lisp, or he may not. He will always refer to the
other PCs as his 'loyal subjects' and give them different post - 'royal advisor'
'holder of the kings chamberpot' etc although he will not insist on them carrying
out any duties.

He will rarely answer a question with the truth, unless he is speaking
to a 'loyal subject'.

He has a picture of a harpsichord tattooed on his chest. If asked why he
will make up a lie.

Random outbursts are common.

He likes to write down cryptic things on bits of paper and hand them to people
with knowing winks.
He has a pen and papers for this purpose.

He likes to cast 'spells' from 'scrolls' (bit of paper with gibberish written on).
When nothing happens he will nod knowingly as if something did.

He likes to talk in various different FONTS and vary between lowercase and UPPERCASE.

He thinks that all chickens are evil necromancers in disguise and will treat
them with deep mistrust.

He thinks that all rabbits are eagles that can't fly and that anything flying in
the sky is looking for the oppertunity to 'go toilet' on him. He carries an umbrella
and whenever there is a bird over head he will open it up and shelter under it.

He carries a set of dice, which he will occassionaly roll and declare to anyone around,
'Aha! A natural twenty!'

He can whistle really really loudly with just his lips.

He has a webbed left food, between his big toe and the one next to it.

NOT SEEN

He is actually from Balder's Gate and has the Educated Feat.

In truth he was a court jester, but will never tell anyone this - poor Barky's gone mad again - MAD!
He was once a very good stage performer, actor and comedian, but he slept with someone he shouldn't
have and went on the run. His mind is not necessarily unhinged, it is just that his 'act' is the only
way he knows how to interact with the world. It could just be he is mad though, who knows? Wibble.

Not of Human/Elf decent, but from a mix of other Half Elves that lived in a commune deep in some forest
ages ago. His father was a very powerful druid but Barky has not seen him since he was young.
His mother was a ninja and tried to train him as a ninja but he wasn't interested and as a result doesn't
like ninja's as they remind him of his mother, who was a ninja.

His brother was a baker, his sister was a butcher. They work together in the same shop back at Balder's
Gate. His older brother is a minor courtier, but is also a member of a secret necromantic sect.
His cousin once put on a belt of gender changing and Barky had sex with her. He was rather worried that
he enjoyed it.

He once had a pet bear, but it died of Bear Flu.

Nice. I (stole) a similar one from a friend.

A pampered Noblewoman who was forced off the estate to go adventure by her former adventurer mother. She cares more about clothing, cuisine, and decor than combat, but is never the less a talented wizard (or bard?). She has servants to do any physical tasks, and the party is skeptical as to whether she's dressed herself before. She's actually very friendly and caring but is so used to being treated like the princess she is that the idea of doing work aside from offering her magic or opinions is ridiculous to her.

One of the quirks I have for the drow is that unicorn blood is a poweful narcotic for them. Gromph is addicted, but he's powerful enough to keep a steady supply and self-disciplined enough (he feels) to break the addiction whenever he wants to (yeah, it's intervention time). I figured that unicorns are pretty much supposed to represent a level of Good pretty much uniformly recognized (with some unicorn-like exceptions), and since the drow were supposed to be evil for evil's sake, or at least just a generally nasty bunch, they should do something nasty to unicorns. So I described Gromph to the party that was being made to work for him. The unicorn was hobbled and chained in place, kicking and whinnying in a panic. It's horn had already been sawn off. Now Gromph grabbed the spiked rein it had been forced to wear and jerked the beast's neck around, exposing a jugular vein. In plunged his dagger, and a cup levitated to catch the precious life fluid. When it was full, the wound sealed up, leaving the whimpering animal alive and severely traumatized. Gromph drained the cup in one hit, licking the crimson stain from his lips as he turned his attention toward the party. "Care for a drink, gentlemen?"

55 (I think). -Member of the Redshirt Family. Somewhere between the Redshirt and the Outrageous Storyteller, this character comes from a clan of would-be heroes who all died in nasty ways. He/she always has an anecdote ready about how his cousin/brother/aunt/grandfather/other relative was killed in such-and-such a place at such-and-such a time while doing EXACTLY what the other players are already doing. His/her greatest ambition is to "reproduce and then die well."

- An eladrin who's always hungry, and a little on the plush side, who was always made fun of by other eladrin in her youth. Humans generally don't notice that anything is unusual. She brings plenty of snacks along on adventures, endearing her to the half-orc/halfling PC's.

- A sorceress who's powers are entirely hereditary, whose limited education has led her to the conclusion that she is, in fact, a priest being granted spells by herself. It took her a while to deduce that she must be a deity, but is now entirely convinced of the matter, which she shares with everyone. Originally played as an especially unusual-looking tiefling who was adopted, thus adding her apparently unique appearance to her list of qualifications as the deity the rest of the party should be worshiping.

- Judgmental, stern cleric who secretly has wild love affairs he takes pains to keep the party unaware of.

- Gnome bard who believes himself to be a fierce barbarian warrior. If he has a familiar, it is his fierce badger companion. Long live Francis.

- Wizard who went to the finest magic academy, living the high life, gambling, and so forth, not thinking to the future consequences. May be adventuring to pay off debt.

Sisivine Dilegia, A Medusa Knight who cut out her eyes to become a part of the knighthood. Nicknamed "Sisivine the Blind," she was far from it. Though the loss of her eyes had robbed her of her petrifying gaze, she could see though the eyes of the snakes that made up her hair. When asked if she felt out of place because she looked different, she replied: "Why? What do the others look like?" She of course could see that she was different, she was merely playing off her nickname, and she was a strong proponent of equality.

73. Social networker: This character seems to know EVERYBODY. She's constantly writing letters or sending magic messages to people, and no matter what town you go to, she always knows a friend somewhere to ask for directions or a cup of tea or just about anything else. If she weren't so earnest and charming, her behavior would seem very suspicious.

74. Obvious Rogue: The bad kind of social networker. He always knows a guy who can hook you up with whatever you need. WHAT-EVER you need. Weapons, narcotics, prostitutes, transportation, whatever. He knows a guy who can arrange matters. Extreme cases may not actually know how to do anything through legal channels.

75. Espionage Agent: Smooth and debonair, this is a kind of social networker who knows a lot of people who can do a lot of things, but mostly who can feed him information. He might work for some government or another, or he might maintain his network of informants for another reason, but it's clear that his smooth and debonair manner conceals a great deal of cunning.

WIZ: I'd love to loan you a healing potion, but healing is the cleric's job. I am a spellcaster, not a healer.

FTR: I don't hunt. Rangers hunt. I'm a fighter. I fight. Hunting and fighting are not the same thing.

ROG: I am not called a 'Thief' anymore. I'm a 'Rogue'. If you insist on calling me a thief, you'll hear from the shop steward!
NPC: But you stole my wallet!
ROG: Yes, but that's in my job description. It's not 'thieving', it's called 'Thievery' and it's a 'Rogue' skill. Now apologize.

CLR: Sorry, guys. I can't turn any undead. The Cleric's Union is on strike to support the Paladins' strike.

Finally, after the adventure:
DM: Okay, that's a total treasure haul of 75,000gp after selling everything.
Party: Yay!
DM: OKay, now the Union takes it's half, plus your union dues, then there's the contribution to the pension fund, the wizard gets docked for giving that healing potion to the fighter (and the steward wants to talk to you about that), there's the docking for taking that sideline adventure that wasn't unioin-approved, crossing the lines to go into the dragon's lair, general election funds, miscellaneous funds, that gives you guys 25 gold, to be divided as follows: Cleric 10 gold, Rogue 6 gold, Wizard 5 gold, Fighter 4 gold.
FTR PLYR: That's not fair!
DM: Get a stronger union. All you do is swing a sword. The wiz is a specialist, the rogue is a specialist who has to deal with local authorities, and the cleric has to deal with gods.

"Redistribution of wealth" was one of his big campaign boasts. Remember? Not too far of a reach, in my defense.

86. An environmentally-friendly wizard who refuses to use cold spells because they help cause global cooling. Needless to say, he and #85 should never be placed in the same party.

No, I mean "Obaggins" is stretching it. Doesn't really flow too well. (Although you can't really ask the man to change his name :P )

EDIT:

And number 87: A barbarian with thick-lens glasses. He goes into a rage whenever they fall off, or are broken, as a result of combat.

Ah, okay. It was a bit of a reach. However, again your entry inspires another one. I'd seen it years ago, but can't remember where. I think it was in an old comic strip called "Mother Goose and Grimm":

88. A barbarian who can read and is quite fond of books. He goes by Conan the Librarian.

103. A Warlock who didn't just make a pact with some strange entity, he actually took it into his physical body. It grants him a +4 that he can use on any roll once per day, but once every full moon he must peform a task for the entity or be burned alive from the inside out. (Inspired by Paul Jessup's "Magpie Codex" spell, Summon Ancient Celestial Being.)

Almost had a #114 in my campaign once. The rogue would sneak into people's houses and leave gifts, tidy things up, trim hedges in the yard, if they were poor he'd leave some coin behind, maybe some medicine if someone was sick, etc. It was one of those half-serious, half-goofy games.

117. I once had a warlock back in 3.5 who basicly got his powers from his screwed up blood line. what happened was that a true neutral aasmir had a kid with lawful neutral half-fiend elf, which basicly bonded a heavy celestial blood line with a heavy fiendish bloodline, and despite having his grandparents try to kill each other all the time, is actually pretty happy with his life, even though he doesn't know much about the rest of the world and is so f'ed up that he tried to cheer up a sick orphan by using a severed goblin head as a puppet. He was fun
