| #1SamVDWOct 22, 2014 23:08:40 | I'm looking to create 101 short, one-line character quirks that could positively enhance playing (like Mr. T's, won't get on an airplane). I've got a pretty good chunk towards that number, but I'm looking for additional unique ones. Any thoughts?! Here's a few that I've come up with so far...
- Can't leave a bar without having a drink.
Do you have any cool player character quirks you've used in-game or thought about? |
| #2SamVDWOct 23, 2014 9:09:08 | A few more...
- Constantly mixes up proverbs and sayings. |

101 Player Character Quirks (1-50)
|
| #6ImaculataDec 08, 2014 17:04:26 | -Character has nightmares every night, where she kicks and punches in her sleep. The next morning she draws pictures of those nightmares on her skin, to conquer those fears. -Character is always poor, due to other people being smarter than him. As soon as he has any money, he gambles it away. -Character has a tendency to be rude and misbehave. -Character is a notorious drunk. -Character has an addiction to a narcotic. -Character is very superstitious, and distrusts magic or any place that is rumored to be haunted. |
| #7BRJNJan 03, 2015 16:52:34 | - Character is convinced he is the gods' gift to women / men. (They disagree.) - Character likes to mildly indulge in a narcotic to relax. - Smart character insists on following a superstition to "heighten his thinking". - Alcohol makes the character sick to his stomach. Before he gets even slightly inebriated. - Super-stingy with money. Doesn't realize he's rich because it is ALL squirreled away against an emergency. - Wants to put ketchup / honey / condiment on everything he eats. - Has a story to tell for every situation, and won't wait until you have the leisure time to listen. |
| #8ImaculataJan 04, 2015 3:17:18 | I play a paladin character that has nightmares, where she kicks and punches in her sleep. When she wakes up, she draws her fears on her skin to conquer them. As such, how much she is covered in ink is a reflection of her emotional state. |
| #9SamVDWJan 17, 2015 9:00:42 | All very nice responses! |
| #10HowdyHangmanJan 18, 2015 13:51:23 | -Character knocks on all doors before entering, even while stealthing. Got to be polite, you know. -Character worships himself, devoutly. Holy symbol, evangelism, the whole shebang. -Character secretly puts random items in other character's bags, like criptic notes or keys that don't have a lock, just for amusement. -Character refuses to acknowledge the existance of any being shorter than himself. -Lawful good character knocks down every door he finds, because behind every closed door, evil is hiding. -Character stutters horribly when nervous or afraid. |

| #13RedSiegfriedFeb 07, 2015 20:55:20 | Character believes in conspiracy theories. ALL CONSPIRACY THEORIES. Doesn't just believe in Bigfoot, believes in flying, radioactive, ghost Bigfoots. Doesn't just believe in Crop Circles, believes in Cement Circles and Concrete Circles.
Character thinks he's from the future and tells everyone else how they're "primitive screwheads." (Thing is, he really IS from the future, but it's not that impressive.) |
| #14ChaosrexFeb 10, 2015 17:02:30 | -Character has an irrational fear of Birds, but he also have an irrational love for Bats and moths. -Character is waaay too serious when he really believe that Trees are actually monsters that move very slowly and wait for the right time to strike, so he often goes on a "trip" to axe down trees he deem suspicious, and he categoricly refuse to spend the night in a forest. -Character as an habit( more like an OCD) about his nails, he constatly scrub them with his fingers, or passe them over his nose and forehead, making them shiny and smooth. -Character always knocks 3 times on the door when entering or leaving a room, if there is no door to knock on he become uneasy. -Character is always making noises and grand gestures when trying to get food stuck between his teeth, either with his tongue or with his fingers. -Character is convinced that the world is inside the eye of a titan named Eghbert, and that he have blue eyes, thats why the sky is blue. -Character has the nasty habit to lick things, particularly things that doesn't belong to him... |
| #15SamVDWApr 29, 2015 15:32:14 | Great additions... maybe I need to do 101 Player Character Quirks - Round 2... |
| #16ImaculataApr 30, 2015 3:09:31 | -Character has a tendency to make grand gestures and wave his arms around when ever he is explaining ANYTHING! -Character has a tendency for epic speeches. -Character gets extremely nervous when talking to the opposite sex. -Character has an adorable pet, that despite his own imagination, is not super intelligent (Go for the eyes Boo! Go for the eyes!). -Character has a tendency to start debates about nearly anything. -Character can't hold his liquor. -Character has a secret identity. -Character has a tendency to tell exaderated stories about a close friend or relative, and compare it to the adventures of the party. -Character has a tendency to inflate the stories of his/her own adventures (and those of the party). -Character is afraid of sailing and the sea. -Character has a fear of heights. -Character distrusts politics, the government and/or any local ruler. -Character shows racism to a particular DnD race (dwarves, elves, halflings, humans). -Character hates and distrusts his own race. -Character carries a mundane object that he/she believes is very special, when it really isn't. -Character constantly talks to animals, even though he/she cannot commune with animals. -Character is extremely proud, and never admits his/her own mistakes. -Character has a tendency to accidentally mix up popular phrases, to create nonsensical ones (that are unintentially funny). -Character is very vain, and is always concerned about his looks when entering any public place. -Character has a tendency to take credit for noble things that someone else in the party did. |
| #17BRJNMay 16, 2015 20:45:53 | - "Talks with his hands", not really Sign Language - Err ... Umm ... Uh ... begins every sentence, especially when he has to think about what he is saying. - Speaks like a Valley Girl (listen to the Frank Zappa song). Best for a high-born non-inheriting teen / college-age. - When traveling, ALWAYS stops just before getting into the next town to change into a clean set of clothes. Changes back into "my road clothes" after that town is out of line-of-sight. - Every week or so, has bought a new earring / bracelet / whatever. - Can't wait to tell you all about his / her kids - who do in fact have an interesting life, much more so than he / she. - Is proud parent to at least one successful adventurer locally. - Has so many levels of Linguist that it is hard to understand what she says, due to picking every word from a different language to get just the right meaning - Is convinced he was once attacked by a vampire but survived, now he won't enter a house unless invited in, fears running water, eats steak extra-rare, &c based on a Vampire's weaknesses. - Howls at the moon when it is full. Looks disappointed if the moon is near New. Is not a were-anything. - Permanent cough due to life-long tobacco use, typically goes off just after hard exertion or while trying to be quiet and sneaky. - Wears a mask (like Phantom of the Opera) to cover scars from childhood disease. Other locals are comfortable with his presence, but newcomers aren't.

| #18BeguileuseAug 04, 2015 18:20:01 | -Half-elf or Half-orc who grew up around only humans, never met their other parent, and is obsessed with learning more about elves or orcs. -Sorcerer who is convinced that they grant themselves spells due to their own inherent divinity ("Sorcerer? You misunderstand, I'm a Cleric of Myself.") -Eats all food offered. Never leaves anything their plate, and always drains their glass when done. -Always dresses either modestly or immodestly, finding attire of the other sort uncomfortable or unattractive. If it's immodest clothing, perhaps they grew up around burlesque performers or prostitutes. -Rephrases everything someone else says. For no apparent reason at all. Maybe they think they are explaining things better, or maybe they are just thinking out loud. |
| #19MudddAug 17, 2015 7:55:09 | - an elf lumberjack that's very dwarfy in nature yet still hates dwarves as much as the next elf |
| #20BRJNSep 20, 2015 19:13:41 | - Character joined a band of adventurers because he wanted some excitement in his monotonous boring life. (Maybe not so much excitement as to stand still in front of monsters wielding sharp pointy swords.) Has a bad case of teenaged angst - which he should have grown out of a few years ago - about how boring and meaningless his old life really was. Used to be a minor scion of a Noble house, until they disinherited him for running away. Misses the luxuries from his old life enough to complain but not enough to save up cash to buy replacements.
Yah, this is a bit long and could be used individually. The idea is to create a personality that makes you want to drop him off at some other inn for the night.

| #21the-alchemistSep 22, 2015 11:22:20 | -One of my players wants his character to be a dwarf with multiple personality disorder. One personality is a drunkard, while the other is a heroic vigilante. -A cleric/paladin who worships a god who has almost nothing to do with him, i.e. a grim paladin mercenary who worships the nature godess. |
| #22the-alchemistSep 24, 2015 11:40:36 | I have another, although it may be extreme. One of the party is cursed to basiclly be the Phantom Stranger. He has to follow the party around in secret, using stealth and magic to hide himself. When the party gets in a tough situation, he uses magic to help out. I would personally use a divination or illusion wizard for this. |
