The reccomended starting level for this campaign is level 9. Now I know how adjustment levels work with drow and duergar for example. Just subtract that amount from the starting level to get the actual character level. Thus a drow would be level 7 at the start of a campaign with level 9 as the starting level. It becomes a lot more complicated with a mind flayer, though, because of those abberation levels. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to calculate that. It has a level advancement of +7, which makes sense... But then they have eight abberation levels, and the character description for it reads that it starts with eight abberation levels... I don't get it... ![]() |

Meaning a run of the mill Mind Flayer is the equivalent of a level 15 character... Which would be too powerful for a level 9 game. However there are rules for making lower level monsters in Savage Species, but note that Savage Species is a 3rd edition book, not 3.5 so your DM might not allow it, and some conversion would need to be done. |
