#1 worshiper_of_moradin Feb 05, 2009 16:13:34	Going way back to 3.5 (I know SO long ago.) I was wondering, I never really have played in a game that enforced the spell component rules but I want to know. Do Cleric's need to have a spell component pouch? I realize wizards and scorcers need them but do clerics as well? Or is all they need a holy symbol.
#2 daidojitaidoru Feb 05, 2009 16:16:57	They need the pouch for any uncosted component, but I can't think of any Cleric spells off the top of my head that have uncosted components. Most just require a Holy Symbol and/or a focus that cost money.
#3 Zherog Feb 05, 2009 16:41:39	As Daid said, very few cleric spells have a material component. Most have "M/DF" in the "component" line of the text. This means that classes with a divine focus (a holy symbol for clerics, holy and mistletoe for druids) use that; everybody else has a material component. Looking at the SRD, shield of faith would seem to be a spell that would have its material component contained in a spell component pouch. I didn't see any other examples, but I only looked up through second level spells. Lots of spells have M/DF, several others have DF, and a few others have M. But all of these (except shield of faith) have a listed cost and therefore wouldn't automatically be in a spell component pouch.

To OP, the typical way of "enforcing" spell components is to have a pouch but not worry about its inventory for the costless items. David
