4e Characters above 1st?

Jul 12, 2009 0:03:08 So, a DM has asked me to make a character above 1st level and to follow the rules in the DMG.

One problem: It's 4e. I have the book, but I cant for the life of me find the rule. I have MEMORIZED 3.5e..... where in the DMG are the character creation rules?

Building a character above 1st level is basically like advancing a character through all the intervening levels, one at a time. At first, it'll take a while, but as you get better at building and advancing characters, the process will take less and less time.

The main difference is that your character can start with Magic Items, if he is above 1st level.

He gets one Magic Item of level X+1 (where X is his level)
He gets one Magic Item of level X (where X is his level)
And he gets one Magic Item of level X-1 (where X is his level)

He also gets gold pieces equal to the value of a magic item of his level (IIRC, but I don't have my books handy to check, could someone check this please, and confirm/correct it).

Other than that, it's the same as making a character at 1st level, just choose more powers, more feats, possibly a paragon path and epic destiny, depending on the level of the character you're making, and your set.

As a side note, you'll probably get a quicker, more accurate response if you post questions in the "Q&A" forum, as opposed to GD. Just a heads up .
