#1 Imperious3 Oct 09, 2012 23:33:58	I thought of a concept for a multiclass Paladin/Rogue, and I was wondering which deity one of these would follow (I'm using the PHB 1 list). His background is that he was a street rat that was betrayed and left for dead by the local thieves' guild, and is found by a priest. He's healed and trained as a paladin. He doesn't so much as find religion as have it sneak up and kick him in the fork. I sort of have narrowed it down to Avandra or Sehanine. Any additional ideas are always appreciated.
#2 Fireclave Oct 10, 2012 8:33:22	It depends more on the character's unique personality, values, and history, rather than his class choice.  Or perhaps more likely, whichever deity the priest who found him worships.  Either way, with what little information you've given here so far, any deity could fit.  My suggestion is to figure out which aspects of his personality you want to emphasis and pick a deity to match.

None of which are on the list of gods in the PHB 1.  You also seem to be making the assumption that he's Lawful Good, which is not necessarily the case.
#6 crzyhawk Oct 12, 2012 9:41:07	Any god is really a fit.  Honestly, I think that anyone who wants to play a Paladin should read "The Deed of Paksenarrion" by Elizabeth Moon on how it "should" be done.

I never said they were in the PHB 1, I said In my personal opinion; same goes for the LG assumption- I wasn't making one, just giving my thought on what I myself would do.

#9 Mad_Jack Oct 13, 2012 0:12:49	Actually, Sehanine or any god of thieves or trickery is probably the least likely choice for the character, since he was previously betrayed by the thieves' guild... Bahamut, Erathis or Moradin are probably better choices if the character has suddenly "seen the light" and had a religious conversion.
#10 Nirafelos Oct 13, 2012 3:15:24	The church of Pelor/Amaunator/Lathander fits as well, as they definitely seem to take in/shelter the needy. A compelling case could also be made for the raven queen, who could have tasked you with the eradication of the corrupt thieves guild.

I love the Adeptus Mechanicus!  @Mad_Jack: Good point, hadn't thought of that. @ Salla: While the character is essentially good, he does have some roguish qualities. Not sure if that falls under LG or not. I don't put too much emphasis on the alignment anyway. Thanks everyone! Great thoughts!

The Raven Queen could offer an interesting story: the priest felt that this particular gutter rat has something important yet to accomplish.  Maybe the priest tried to pass and let nature take its course, but couldn't. If you're wanting to go with a more "white knight" feel, this sounds exactly like something a follower of Pelor would do.
