Im writing this Tiefling up at 4th since hopefully everyone will be 4th by the time H2 starts. Now in the DGM it says you get 3 magical items of the following worth. = to your level = to your level +1 = to your level -1 On top of that you get money = to the worth of a magic item of your level -1 to spend how you please. Here is my predicament. I am supposed to buy a 3rd level item, a 4th level item, and a 5th level item. I found the 3rd and 5th level items that I want. There are no 4th level items that I want though. Can I trade in the ability to pick a 4th level item and just get another 3rd level item? |

Personally, I think Option #4 is "as intended" for reasons of maintaining the power level in the game. However, I feel Option #2 is the best compromise. Keep in mind, too, that more official magic items are on the way. Check the articles on artificers and warforged in Issues 364 and 365 of Dragon at D&D Insider for new toys, and the official 4E magic item compendium is on deck for September. One final word on magic items: keep in mind that PCs at the Heroic Tier can use ONE (and ONLY one) Daily Power from ANY of their magic items per day, with an additional daily power use granted for each Milestone. In any event, each item power may be used only once per day. For example, a PC with +1 Dwarven Scale (Daily healing power) and Flameburst longsword (Daily fire power) can use EITHER the healing or flame power. After reaching a Milestone, the PC would be able to use the daily power from the other item. (reference PHB, p226). |
