| #1martinwuffJul 16, 2012 21:30:55 | "Let me explain... no, that will take to long, let me sum up..." Some questions have popped up in our game that I am running (still new to DMing, and new-ish to 4E). 1. Immediate reaction vs. immediate reaction: Skeletal hammerer walks up to our rogue to pound her into mush. "Aha!" she cries, and uses Acrobat's Escape to flee from the nasty. Unfortunately, the Skeletal Hammerer also says "Aha!" and uses a triggered action Sudden Strike, and again attempts to pound her into mush. I assume that the following happens --> S.H. moves into position --> Rogue uses escape --> S.H. gets to attack --> Rogue then gets to finish her escape, limping a little --> S.H. finishes his turn? Only is seems the PHB says this ability (Sudden Strike) technically can't work: (pg. 268) - "If a creature triggers your immediate reaction while moving... you take your action before the creature finished moving but after it has moved at least 1 square". This says to me the Rogue would get one square away from the Hammerer and thus, would be out of range? 2. Insight Utility - Prescient Maneuver Does the target have to be within 5 squares when it starts its move, or can I use this as soon as the target moves into that range? And while this is an interrupt, does that mean the target can change its course during its move? (i.e. for sake of argument, it starts 4 squares from me, moving directly at me, I inturrupt and move back around a corner, and now that I left the room, it instead turns and heads towards one of my other friends) 3. Fighter attack 1 - Tempest Dance Can I target the same target with each attack? 4. Status effect Weakened, based on the errata for PHB, does not affect a Wizard's Magic Missle, correct? 5. Invisibility - If a character turns invisible, and is hidden from you, you cannot see it nor guess its square. But now, you are walking and enter the invisible creature's square - the creature is no longer hidden, but still invisible, but you would still be at a -5 to hit, correct? Does your movement end there? I think thats it for now. I appreciate any help you can offer!! |
| #2melloredJul 17, 2012 12:25:03 | 1) You can't take immidiate (or oppertunity) actions on your own turn. But assuming it's a second SH that's standing next to the rogue... Reactions happen afterwards. So the rogue get's to shift before the SH get's to swing. So it's really only good if someone shifts around the SH. (probably should be an interupt, and i wouldn't fault any DM for treating it as such, though the SH still couldn't use it on it's turn). 2) It has to be within 5 squares and move, but It doesn't have to be it's first square of movement. And while it can't stop moving into a certain square, it can change course afterwards. So it could go... 6->5->4->5->6->7 ^interupt 3) i'm away from the book so i don't know. But unless it say's something like "second target", i don't see why not. 4) Magic Missile is still an attack so i assume so. But again, i'm away from the book. 5) Invisibliliy means you can't see it, but you still know where it is. Hidden means you don't know where it is, but you can still guess (likely someone with better peception points out the square to you). If you try and walk into something hidden, you know where it is so it's no longer hidden. Note that you also provoke an OA, since you tried to leave a square adjacent to them, and you still enter the square if you can, or loose 1 square of movement if you can't. Also, the Q&A forum can answer rules questions like these better then this one. This one is more for non-rules stuff, like how to deal with a player who's always late or something. |
| #3CentauriJul 20, 2012 17:17:27 | "Let me explain... no, that will take to long, let me sum up..." Nice quote. I love that movie. 1. Immediate reaction vs. immediate reaction: I don't know how those powers work, but you can't use an immediate action on your own turn. This includes opportunity actions. 4. Status effect Weakened, based on the errata for PHB, does not affect a Wizard's Magic Missle, correct? Weakened only affects damage that is rolled, so it doesn't affect Magic Missile. 5. Invisibility - If a character turns invisible, and is hidden from you, you cannot see it nor guess its square. But now, you are walking and enter the invisible creature's square - the creature is no longer hidden, but still invisible, but you would still be at a -5 to hit, correct? Does your movement end there? You can guess an invisible creature's square, or use Perception to try to find it. You cannot enter an enemy's square. If you tried, you'd know the square it was in and could attack it, but all normal concealment penalties would apply. |
