I am trying to find a way to make a non swordmage get the Swordmage Warding ability. I was thinking of making a feat.

Arcane Warding
Req: Blade Initiate feat, Paragon multiclassing as a swordmage

Can now invoke the Swordmage Warding class feature once per encounter

Does this seem fair?

It seems very strong. Swordmage Warding is a huge AC buff to a PC using a one-handed weapon. It's better than a heavy shield, and doesn't incur a check penalty.

Is there a reason the PC needs this? Or is it purely for flavor? If it's purely for flavor, why not just let them reflavor a shield as a field of arcane energy? If they really need that big of a boost to their AC, why can't they use a shield?

Homebrew options like this need to be weighed very carefully. Something like this, even with PMC as a requirement, can make a character nigh-invulnerable.

Also your sig is huge, can you spoiler it?
