| #1dawnbringerApr 23, 2008 16:57:54 | Ok, i'm a level 9 wizard/2 blood magus. We're in the forgotten realms campaign. First, i've got 20,000 gp to spend and one month to plan out. Three of those days i'm working on making my buckler into a +2 buckler, and 2 of those days im helping someone track down a demon. After that i got no idea what to do. And then i've got four 3 month chunks to plans. The DM plans to advance me 9 levels, or more depending on what i do. But i haven't got a clue. Can anyone come up with ideas with what I could do? |

| #3talismanApr 23, 2008 20:33:33 | I'm not sure I understand the problem here. You're saying your character has ~13 months of downtime, and the GM expects you to explain what you're doing during all that time? And that you'll be gaining nine levels by the end of it? Making you 20th level? Why on earth - excuse me; why on Aebir-Toril do you have 13 months of downtime? And why do you have to account for everything your wizzie is doing during this time? And why, by Cthulhu, will this net you nine "free" character levels? I'd like to help, but...me is confoozled. ![]() |

Wizard is one class that should NEVER run out of things to do. You would want to make contingency plans for the chance one of your rival wizards attempts to kill you and steal your spellbook and stuff. You could research spells. You could design and build your tower/place of power/residence--be sure to add in all sorts of traps and guardian monsters! You could create cool unique items designed to surprise opponents and give you an edge in battle. You could gain the leadership feat at some point (since you are gaining levels) and acquire followers/cohort/apprentices and then work to equip and train them. You could create constructs for various uses--I always find a shield guardian or runic guardian useful. You could make pacts and 'understandings' of mutual nonagression and support with wizard peers. You could acquire land and develop it. You could put money-making schemes into place. You could build a spelljammer. I mean....you're a high level wizard...use your imagination! Do whatever you want, the sky and your resources are the limit! Have you played a wizard before? |
| #6magrusApr 24, 2008 7:56:37 | Research spell "Find new DM that lets me play to get XP"? See what he says. |
| #7shinikamaApr 24, 2008 10:30:20 | In FR... Lets see... It comes down to alignment... I have 3. CG: Build a tower east od Shadowdale. Aquire the Leadership feat, and found your own Village. Help it to prosper. Pay a visit to Ol' Elminster and insist that your Dale is better than his. LN: Move to Luskan. Clean up the town by finding and eliminating all of the criminal gang's heads, starting with the assasin's guild. NE: **** off the Witches of Rashemen. Blame it on Thay. When the countries are both decimated, come in and sweep it into a pile and voila! New country! |
| #8dawnbringerApr 24, 2008 16:58:12 | Ok, maybe I should explain a bit more. He is actually a great DM, and we haven't played his game for about a year now due to personal reasons. And now he is finally continuing, and we've all been looking forward to it for ages. Because of the year, he's getting us to have a year downtime, and letting us become epic, seeing as we would have become epic if we continued playing for the year. That and we would all like to experience epic encounters. That is why all the downtime. Now, i like some of those suggestions. And believe me, I will be making a stronghold, but not until i'm level 21 ;). Thats where I get an extra 800,000 gp to help me build a stronghold (stronghold builders guidebook). Thanks for all the ideas. |
| #9dead_poolApr 24, 2008 17:08:14 | research the campaign setting find out where you need to go to train for all the feats and levels you are gaining. I think either the dmg or phb have guidelines for out of gaim training though it is usually used to bring a player who had to leave a group for a while back up to snuff. thats what you should have to be doing at the very least for those kind of gains. now if you don't want to be remotely realistic about it you could use any of the suggestions up until this one. |
| #10metalmayhem80110Apr 25, 2008 13:00:18 | Take your money and invest it. Start a buisness or something and have it start paying off. By the end of the 13 months, if done properly, you will have enough money to buy some seriously wicked gear :D And I also second the invading of Thay. |
| #11ciaranApr 25, 2008 18:44:07 | Now you wish you had invested ranks in Craft: Shoe Making so you could land a job and rake in the BUCKS!!! |
| #12FireclaveApr 25, 2008 19:53:56 | You finally made it back out of Undermountain. Alive and intact, no less. |
