Ok, the group are in a dungeon and we have encountered an invisible monster, none of us have any spells that wouold be of use to let us see him, only 2 of the team can see him and the rest of us are getting kicked in the but. i had the idea of shooting in the genrall direction with my longbow and trying to hit it with a flaming arrow, that didnt work, does anyone have an idea about how to make it visible?

Get a general bead on him and throw a fireball or somekinda burst attack burst attacks hit him regardless of invisibility and most invis spells stat when ya get hit ur visible id have to know the group make up before I could give anything divinitive.

- Area effects ignore invisibility
- If you can fill the area with some sort fo visible powder (and not choke yourself to death in the meantime) that might help.

I'm not that familiar with 3.x rules, but for 4e you have several options.

An old standby is to carry a little sack of flour.

Also, each turn you can make a perception check as a minor action to identify the location of the invisible creature.  You can then use burst/blast attacks, or make regular attacks at a -5 penalty.

Of course, if two of your allies can see the enemy, they can just tell you where it is.  You should be able to get a bead on the correct square no problem.

Assuming 4e, if the invisible creature isn't making Stealth checks to become hidden, you know what square he's in and can target him as normal (albeit with a -5 for his total concealment).

Got rope? Grab one end, toss the other to someone, run in it's general direction. When the rope hits something solid, start wrapping it up. There...you didn't even have to kill it.

Have caltrops? Scatter them around so it has to come from one direction, or scatter them everywhere and you'll know where it's stepping (this works with just about anything you can scatter on the floor).

Without knowing anything about the DM I can't say this'll work...but, when I'm DM, I give mad-props for unique solutions. Canned solutions, not so much. If you can think of something he/she didn't consider there's an even chance it'll work in your favor. If not, at least you get the joy of seeing the look on his/her face. Tongue out

If two of your party can see him, just tell them to make him bleed. For less cold-hearted sounding solutions, see the above posts.

Since two of you can already see it apparently, you have tons of options.

At least one of the ones who can see it can point straight at the creature allowing you to all know the right square. Slight variation, you wait until the ones who can see it attack, and then attack the same place immediately after, possibly with Readied actions (or just Delay until after them and come off delay before the enemy gets his turn).

No idea what you're fighting, but if it's something that can be reached, and grabbing it isn't a big problem, then one of the PCs can actually "Grab" it. Then the rest of you surround it and wail on the proper area.

If you are not in a wide open field, you can use terrain to funnel the creature into a narrower space. Rather than just "back to the wall" which forces it to come from certain sides, how about you just back up into a hallway or stand behind a door: that limits who it can attack (possibly at least) and if it pursues either to engage in melee or to attack with line of sight, you can figure out where it is if for some reason pointing to it doesn't work.

Another simple, if relatively effective tactic against invisible enemies attacking in melee, is "Ready" an attack for when you're attacked, in the direction you're attacked from. Presumably you'll feel the attack from the direction the enemy is in at the least. Just like you can tell which way a sniper is by the direction the quarrel is pointing out of your chest.
