I know, its ultimately up to me to decide (obviously), but i just wanted to see if anyone had any good ideas for a personality of my Dwarved Battlerager. I'll give some background. He was basically a nobody that worked for a friend at a tavern called The Drunken Monkey. It starts of with him dressing in his finest pants, which he only has 3 pairs anyway. The first thing he says in the backstory is "“What you banging on me door so hard for, I just replaced it a few moons ago.” "

Events pass and he basically has to flee from his home out his window in order to stay alive. He goes out with nothing but this handed down axe and his clothing on him. He fights off a small (minion) army and then sets off. Hes gonan get recruited by a mayor of a city and hes gonna be partnered up with 4 fey and a genasi. One of the elves is gonna be a drow. So... Thats about it. Any ideas of a personality that would be fun to play in this game? I know theres gonna be a eladrin fighter that will prob hate me.

One of my players is planning to play a Dwarven Battlerager in my next game. His story is basically that his character's wife and kids were killed, and that he's gone on a suicidal rampage to take out as many things as he can until he can join them in the afterlife. He's good aligned, so he's not going to just be rampaging through town, but has chosen the life of an adventurer since it offers so many opportunities to fight.

He went fully 2-handed with his weapon choices, and total offense in his power choices. This type of thing might work out well for you with another defender in the group already.

Hmm, i should have mentioned he never really had a family and his father left when he was very young. Hes had to fend for himself this whole time, but recently found out his dad was a mighty adventurer and thats where he got hsi handed down axe from. He actually fled because of thsi axe too. A high lord wanted this axe and threatened him with death if he didnt give it to him. My dwarf is gonna be a big tank basically. I want him to take as much punishment as possible while protecting others. The other fighter in my group is going the more offensive route.

You're asking for a personality? Hmm, well the first thought that immediately pops to mind is to play against stereotype.

Make him the nicest, friendliest, most fey-tolerant dwarf that ever lived. In fact, if your group won't be offended by it, play him like one of those effeminate gay guys on TV. Make it his life mission to find finer pairs of pants. Do it completely straight-faced and scorn any of the other players who break into giggles at the ridiculousness of it.

Either that or be predictable with a gruff attitude and grumbling complaints about girly treehuggers.

He has had to fend for himself, his dad was a big adventurer, and he will fight to protect others?

What about making him kind-hearted but arrogant? At heart, he does not believe most people are able to take care of themselves, and need people like him to do it for them. Maybe he expects free beer and boarding from "lesser people".

Something like The Punisher meets Mr. Rogers. That would be a fun dwarf to play.

I concur. Make him a tree hugging hippy like the rest of the party. Have him have problems interacting with other Dwarves because of it. Of course he's still gruff. Give him a teddy bear too... Mr. Snuggles.... a grungy beer stained toy made from real bear fur.... maybe another gift from dad? Mr. Snuggles can be his alternate persona. So when he goes into Battle Rage mode it's because someone ****** off Mr. Snuggles. Have him not claim any responsibility for what happens in this state and instead blame it all on Mr. Snuggles.

That sounds almost like Minsc...

Who would be a perfectly good choice for a personality to base it off of.

PERSONALITY TEMPLATES BY ALIGNMENT: CHAOTIC NEUTRAL

Moderate Soccer Hooligan.

Drinks to point of drunkenness, Enjoys public tournaments and Sporting Spectacles, and spills into the streets for drunken street fights. Considered undesirable rabble by the Mayor though isnt a racist extreemist like CHAOTIC EVIL. Works in a crud job and spends all his money on booze.
