Ok, so I played a lv 7 wizard, with spell thesis fireball, and during a game, my dm sent a rogue/shadowdancer at my party. Ok, we were in a 40 by 40ft room and my dm kept using the shadowdancer's hide in plain sight ability with a +30 to hide to basically become invisible, attack, teleport around in the shadows somewhere, and then attack again later. Ok, I can't see him, don't know where he is, and know that if I sent my fireball after him, I would probably hurt me and my party more than him because he has evasion. Any advice?

If you are sure you have a very rough idea of where he is, fill that area with a glitterdust (very useful spell, every caster should at least have 1-2 castings available at all times).

It confers a -40 on hide checks (no save), blinds him on a failed will save (which is likely to be his weakest save), outlines him (so even being invis is no use), and generally screws with his strengths (eg: he loses dex mod to AC, cannot sneak attack, has a 50% miss chance and has a reduced speed).

This spell was designed to screw over with rogues, I tell you.:D

This depends very much on what spells and magic items you have available. The easiest thing to do is to simply illuminate the room as brightly as you can, because that stops the Shadowdancer's Hide In Plain Sight and Shadow Jump abilities. No shadows, no powers, then attack him with things that don't allow Reflex saves.

You could also ready an action. From the way you described it, he's visible during the attack itself. Wait 'til he springs out, then hit him with a non-Reflex spell (probably a Will-based hoser like Hold Person is your best bet).

You could (spells permitting) summon something with Darkvision, Scent, Tremorsense, Blindsight, or any other good sensory power.

Agreed. Glitterdust is a wizard's way of telling a rogue to go home.

invisibile ones, not blinking ones. all that rogue needs is a ring of blinking. and what does that mean, see ethereal will be needed too. Ring of blinking=Blink at will, 7 rounds between activations, all of which are as an ethereal creature.

That's what you get for casting freaking Fireball.

Like people said, cast Glitterdust. In fact, every single time you feel like casting Fireball, cast Glitterdust instead; your party will be better off.

As for the ring of blinking, it gives the Rogue a miss chance as well, which means he can't sneak attack.

I think he can actually. Sneak attack only does not work against foes with concealment, but blinking just gives you a 20% miss chance, which is technically not concealment, much as it simulates the effects of.

Or a sculpted glitterdust, for times when your enemies are too spread out to fit in a 10-ft radius spread.:D
