| #1clig76Sep 11, 2009 15:20:22 | I just picked up the 4e start set to see if I would like playing solo (I have zero friends that play games). Anyway due to the combat heavy encounters and the suggested tactics for the monters I had a great time. I am seriously considering playing this solo for some time to come. It seems like a ton of fun to work on tactics and level up characters. Does anyone else play this way? Thanks Curt |

| #3NovacatSep 11, 2009 16:15:37 | I wouldn't play solo. I've gotta recommend that you get at least a couple of your friends to give it a try. D&D is a social game, and is best enjoyed with friends. |

For me, it is time to spend with friends, so no, I don't play solo. If, and I do say IF you wished to play with others, there is play by post and various online methods. I play the Star Wars RPG online with people I have never met in person and I have a blast. That said, that is ONLY if you wish to play with others, no pressure. |

| #6balmasSep 11, 2009 17:43:14 | I wasn't going to say it, but now it's been brought up... Solo DnD is like masturbation: enjoyable, but not as much fun as it could be. |
| #7mynameisjakeSep 11, 2009 21:38:51 | And both are a little embarassing when someone walks in on you.... |
| #8XeadinSep 11, 2009 21:41:31 | I usually play solo just to test out a custom-made adventure to see if it's playable, or if it needs some tweaking to the adventure hook. I'd play in groups with a finalized product. |
| #9falstyrSep 12, 2009 6:01:57 | Next to playing with friends, dm'ing for friends and shortly playing by posts it is always fun to have some solo games on the side as well. Shiftkitty once made a topic about it with a how-to guide. As a DM I used to play solo in the sense of testing dungeons and social encounters while using my player's characters. So it isn't that odd. |
| #10drewswizardSep 12, 2009 18:37:06 | its a nice way to playtest new builds, enacting the bloody bits of backgrounds, or just something to do when you don't feel like taking time to get everyone to play. |
| #11CaericSep 12, 2009 22:57:51 | Solo DnD is like masturbation: enjoyable, but not as much fun as it could be. A great, wisdomous declaration, without a doubt. I can't imagine playing D&D solo. I barely grasp why people play D&D with just one player and one DM. Sometimes I find it odd to play with two players and a DM. Three or four players and a DM is what I would aim for myself. But I don't profess to be all-knowing about the human psyche. What is unimaginable for me may be very enjoyable for you. But I don't get it. Without friends (or even just other people), it seems like it'd just be about the numbers. I dunno how on board I could possibly get with that idea. |
| #12Duke5150Sep 13, 2009 0:13:46 | You mean like with no one else at all? Never tried it. Do you role play with yourself too, or just do combat or what? I always thought "solo D&D" was 1 Dm and 1 player. I can see how that could be useful for playtesting stuff. I'd personally rather play my ps3, than play D&D by myself. But I'v got tons of buddies who game, and they never leave me the hell alone. So its almost too easy to get a game of D&D going.
I remember back in the day when I was a kid, I used to "solo play" with my matchbox cars, gijoes and transformers. (pokin fun, relax people!) |
