Attack +1/2 Level?

Jun 20, 2009 18:41:24 I have a question about attacking. I have a warlock, and most of his powers are "Intelligence vs." whatever (AC/Ref/Will/Fort). Is this my base Intelligence modifier, or do I use the +1/2 level ability modifier? It makes little sense to me why an 8th level Warlock with 18 Intelligence can't hit any better than a first level Warlock with 18 intelligence.

Jun 20, 2009 18:45:20 Yes, you add half your level to attack rolls in addition to your Intelligence modifier.

Jun 20, 2009 20:03:47 The mod that includes half level is used to determine success or failure of an action (such as hit or miss), while the mod that does NOT include half level augments the result (such as damage rolls).

Ocarina_Guy: Sorry, I didn't have the PHB in front of me, and when I was thinking about this question the other night, I was using an Int attack. Now that you mention is, I think most of my powers are Cha-based (or maybe Con...). Again, I don't have the book in front of me. It was a simple mistake that had little relevance to the question asked.
