So my friends and I are running two different groups of characters at the same time. Both groups want to get into a plane, created by a wizard, for different reasons and have yet to meet up in the game world. Group 1 went into the plane.  Now group 2 wants to get into the plane but the wizard, receiving word of group 1's trespassings,  has locked it off from entry and escape. How can i get group 2 to this plane without having a more powerful spellcaster than the wizard?

So you can't overpower this wizard or his spells -- how about persuading him to let you in?  Maybe group 2 can offer to remove group 1 from that plane for him?

Trhu the Awesome power of Mcguffin-ite!

A rare material that can pierce thru the closed viels of locked planes! And the party can find enough for one trip!

Kavivyd, unfortunately as group 2, we don't know that group 1 exists. It is also impossible to overpower the wizard because of his high level.

Bilop, haha, if only we could obtain such a rare material.

Tragically 50 Bothans and 12 Pandorians had to die to bring us the information on how to bypass the locked passage to this plane.  We must strike the death star Wizard's stronghold before it is too late.

p.s. If this were my campaign it would be rather easy.  Balinac can generate its own shadow plane gates anywhere that light and shadow exist as "elements".  Creating your own planar gateway, or finding a being able to generate its own gateways and bargaining for its assistance is all it would actually take.  Nothing says the have to use a gate controlled by the Wizard.

I hope this helps.

Here's an idea:  Let's say some reasonably powerful spellcaster - perhaps a good or unaligned dragon - knows of a flaw in the spell the wizard uses to lock the plane down.  This allows him to create a gate to the plane without being a more powerful spellcaster.  And, later, the party watches this wizard murder their ally for his insolence.

OR the ally is as powerful as the wizard, and able to break through, but when the wizard becomes more powerful, they watch him murder their ally for his insolence.

More basically, you ation, could use another caster to get them in, and later have the wizard kill him, mind control him, so something that makes this ally refuse to move against him ever again (maybe start helping him...), or anything else that just becomes a demonstration of how evil and powerful this wizard is, and further motivates the party to take the wizard down.
