Being Incorporeal 3.5 question

Jun 15, 2011 1:50:07 Hi, I'm having a bit of an issue with the state of being incorporeal. I have read the Wizard's article on it, as well as read it in the Dungeon Master Guide, but still have a fuzzy area or two.

I would become incorporeal through the use of, "Ghost Rod" from Arms and Equipment. Reading the articles on this state, I see that I can make touch attacks that ignore armor and natural armor. However, I'm not sure what methods I can an cannot use to attack.

I know that I can cast spells and use wands. I don't know, however, if I can use magical items that do damage, (i.e. "greater tentacle rod" from "Magical Item Compendium" is my current item of choice) ranged weapons, melee weapons, or any other type of weapon.

So what are my attack options when in this state? Any input is greatly appreciated, as I'm a new player.

Jun 15, 2011 8:19:39 Rules questions for D20 will generally get a better answer in the D20 Rules Questions forums - the audience there is more knowledgable and more focused on D20.

Up here in the "there is something odd with my out-of-game inter-group dynamic" forum, you've got a great many people who haven't played D20 in years, or who've never played it at all, to go along with a smaller selection of people who might know the answer.

(I, for example? Don't know the answer. But I do know a place where you're more likely to get a good answer)

Attacking corporeal creatures while non-corporeal is the same as attcking non-corporeal while corporeal. There's a 50% miss chance unless you are using force effects or "ghost touch" weapons.

Not true. An incorporeal touch attack is a melee touch attack that ignores armor, natural armor, and shield bonuses to ac, but it doesn't ignore force effects.

Your options for attacking while incorporeal are ALL the same as if you are not, its when you go Ethereal via Ethereal Jaunt and other effects that you can't affect the real world. If you're incorporeal, you lose your strength score (it becomes -), but you have a fly speed with perfect maneuverability, you can't really affect the physical world physically without aid from magic, like telekinesis or ghost touch effects, and everything that attacks you that isn't a force affect has a 50% chance to miss you. You suffer no chance to miss anyone else, even other incorporeals.
