The DM knows about them off game but is clueless about them. Because they officially are not happening there is nothing the DM can do about it. Am I the only person who does this? |
| #2mock26Feb 12, 2011 7:26:34 | What in all of the verse are you talking about? |
| #3mandatorysuicideFeb 12, 2011 9:26:50 | If youre saying what i think youre saying, then yea sometimes, but there is only so many secret plans you can start without the DM being aware of them for the world around them to recognize its existance |
| #4Cohen95Feb 12, 2011 10:01:54 | What edition and/or version of which Wizards of the Coast product are you playing? |
| #5chaosturtleFeb 12, 2011 22:49:10 | You cheat? |
| #61337DnDMTCn3rdFeb 13, 2011 16:27:50 | I wouldn't call it cheating per say but basically here's what I am doing: I am in a way secretly DMing some operations and events off to the side that only I know about. However these events don't directly affect the overall scenario, they are just secret projects I am running. They are usually: infiltration, running experiments, doing research, capturing specimens, building facilities, collecting artifacts, surveilence & recon, developing wargame scenarios, intelligence gathering, and other clandestine activities that the NSA and CIA would do. These are what I call black ops and that's pretty much the basics of what I am doing. |

If you share the DM duties then what you are doing is not cheating per se, but it is definitely a very childish and munchkin thing to do. Keeping secrets of this type from the other DMs is a good way to piss off your friends. If you are not the DM (and/or only DM once in a while) then what you are doing means absolutely nothing without the approval of the regular DM. Every DM in the world is well within his or her rights to simply say, "No" to this type of stuff if the player does it in secrecy on his own. If you are the main DM then it is your campaign world to do as you please. Also, what game are you playing? And why are you doing these "black ops"? What is the purpose of them? Are you trying to make money? Gain power in the game world? Get new gear for your character? If they have an impact on the game and you are not the main DM then is shows a profound lack of respect for everyone in your group. |

I think you can play out all these scenario you present on these boards all by yourself, with out any help from anyone else. I mean really if you are playing out these scenarios with out the Dm, why envolve a Dm at all. |
| #9trebor_rjfFeb 14, 2011 10:51:42 | i think i smell a troll. and if you're being serious then yeah, you're cheating. any dm's in this game need to know EVERYTHING thats going on in the game world. |
| #10LordOfWeaselsFeb 14, 2011 17:48:00 | i think i smell a troll. Gee, dude's got "Canard" in his username, you think maybe? |
| #11SamrinFeb 14, 2011 17:50:14 | I would respond, but, I would have to know what I'm responding to. I'm not sure he's even talking to us.... |
| #12slobo777aFeb 15, 2011 2:39:51 | i think i smell a troll. Nah, he's just young and enthusiastic. If I posted about my early games to a forum (there were no such things as the web or forums of course, I am old), then my angle would probably have equal numbers of people scratching their heads. |

| #14JhariiFeb 15, 2011 10:50:12 | DMing and role playing solo is typically called imagination and fantasy. Neither is disruptive, and should be encouraged as long as it doesn't negatively impact others directly. |
| #15LordOfWeaselsFeb 16, 2011 23:22:27 | Wow, apparently "we have censored this because we object to it" has been expanded to include "things we object to, and responses to them, AND the fact that we have objected to them, and also things we didn't object to but happened in close proximity to things we objected to". Oh, come on, WotC, what's wrong with leaving the original posts up, even if you have edited them to just say "We think this post sucks, --WotC Moderators"? |
