Bonus to allies, materialized on the table

Hi fellow players,

The group i play with is going fine so far, me playing a healing-focused cleric. However, death comes sometimes, you never know when, so i started looking around for another class to play for my (maybe) next character. The class i have in mind is the runepriest. Through reading a lot about it, it has come to my attention that the runepriest provides his party with a lot of hit bonus, damage bonus, bonus to saves, penalties to the enemy, etc., some of them around him, some of them to a specific ally or enemy, for a variable amount of time.

After 3+ rounds of combat, i can imagine it to be difficult to keep track of. I was considering using little papers or stones (rune-carved maybe, for the flavor) on the table to materialize the bonus and penalties i give to my friends and the DM, but that also seems a little complicated.

Does anyone have any suggestion in that regard ?

I'd make index cards, myself, with the bonus printed on it in big, friendly letters and hand them out as necessary (or, if they affect everybody or the next person to do something, put them on an unused corner of the battlemap).  I'd think, at that point, surely SOMEONE at the table will see them, then once they expire or are used, you scoop them back up.

We write the bonusses on the table, but then we've covered it in whiteboardfoil, so this may or may not be applicable to you Tongue out

Actual Runes would be awesomely thematic though. Takes maybe one or two sessions to get used to, but if you buy a set of stones in different colors for different bonusses you could just drop two red runes and a blue one the table to show "+2 to hit" and "+1 AC".

Index cards would also work if your players aren't very good at remembering the colors.

Whatever you do, be organized and be vocal if you play a runepriest.  I'm old school, so the index cards sound good to me.  The runes even more so if you are crafty or artistic.  I still think you will have to be prepared to be vocal, reminding your fellow players of your rune aspect and adjacent bonuses.

If you are not organized and vocal most of your bonuses will be wasted.  The rest of the party, depending on thier knowledge level, may not even know about them.

Thanks for the advice. We don't use any battlemap, most of the time, so some advice are inapplicable.

I think i'll go with carved stones, if i ever start a runepriest.

If you can afford these from Gale Force Nine (Scroll down a bit) they are really nice.

The little scroll pieces, you can write bonuses or penalties on them with a dry erease marker.

They also sell sets for the Players Handbook 1 series. They said they were coming out with other classes, but haven't seen them yet.
