Building a Dragon PC (3.5)

Aug 08, 2008 18:48:08 So I have the draconomicon, and permission to play anything with an LA +6 or lower. So I've decided it would be fun to play a dragon PC. I've looked through the book and found that a young silver dragon has an LA +5.

Now my problem is, I have no real idea about how to go about building this character. Does he gain class levels like a normal character? What are the racial stats for a young silver? I'm really confused and could use some help.

Aug 11, 2008 22:44:29 First question I gotta ask is "What is starting level?" I ask this because, even though Level Adjustment is +5, a young silver dragon also has 13 Hit Dice. That means that unless you are playing in an epic (or near epic) game, you will be 18the level out the starting gate.

My suggestion would be to play as a half-dragon for the time being. Their LA is a lot smaller, and they have no racial HD.

Aug 13, 2008 22:51:48 Id play a half dragon and work with my DM to come up with a way through some manner to change into a full dragon.

If your DM is worth his salt he will love the idea and happily work this into his game.

What?! "If your DM is worth his salt, he will love the idea of you being a dragon?" I am more and more disappointed by these boards every day. The thought that any DM has to "love" integrating a massively-story-changing character that will not only dump more work on him, but add a character that might absolutely not fit at all with the power level or the given circumstances of the setting. He may have said he could be anything in a certain range from that book, but it sounds like neither DM nor player really understand what that means, what it entails, or how to do it. The point is that it might not fit the game, but that doesn't mean the DM is not "worth his salt" (outdated and rather offensive as that phrase is).

In the meantime, OP, yes. The above comments are correct. I believe a Young Silver Dragon's Effective Character Level is something in the neighborhood of 18, as listed above.

I stand by my statement. I first off do accomdate intersting ideas such as the one above in games I run and secondly have never had alot of work in doing such.

I am sick of the same old drivel on these boards about copying this or that lame book or WAIT let me make a retarded anime into a game(Fullmetal alchemist) etc. Mind you I have exceptional players who help me craft amazing stories which I first off never have to worry about them abusing rules or number crunching etc so i am able to focus on the story and draw them deeply into it along with me. It also helps that I am used to running games with characters of varying powerlevels and yet still manage to keep everyone involved and feeling like they are equal parts of the story unfolding before there eyes.

Maybe I'm just lucky and need to see how the other half lives and step into the world of the average 3.5 or /shudder 4e players then maybe your statement will be worth more then e-Toiletpaper....

Wow that felt amazingly good. Been holding my tongue on these boards for a while now.
