| #1burningroseJul 28, 2009 21:12:39 | My DM and a few people in our group say that there's a rule where you can't use the same power twice in a turn (like using the same at-will with an action point). I've looked for the rule somewhere in the PHB, and can't find it. I'm pretty sure they're just mistaken, but not absolutely sure. Is there some rule I'm not aware of, and where can I find it? |
| #2truemallowmanJul 28, 2009 21:15:00 | There's no such rule. |
| #3flipguarderJul 28, 2009 21:15:58 | ![]() You just got bamboozled. No such rule. I'm 89.6% sure |
| #4dalzigJul 28, 2009 21:38:51 | I can't swing my turn twice in one turn? Is there something physically preventing me? (Basic Attacks are powers.) I'm just wondering how you would ever come to this conclusion... |
| #5NovacatJul 28, 2009 22:54:00 | It's probably from a half-remembered rule; namely, that you can't choose the same power twice when selecting the powers you know. This probably got misremembered as "you can't use the same power twice." |
| #6princemerciaJul 28, 2009 23:02:21 | I can't swing my turn twice in one turn? Is there something physically preventing me? (Basic Attacks are powers.) wait...are basic attacks considered powers? |
| #7attrebusJul 28, 2009 23:06:25 | There are some abilities that specifically prohibit the use of more than once per turn (i.e. The minor action healing abilities of various classes). But that doesn't apply to all powers. |
| #8dalzigJul 28, 2009 23:06:47 | wait...are basic attacks considered powers? PH1 287: "A basic attack is an at-will attack power that everyone possesses, regardless of class." |
| #9princemerciaJul 28, 2009 23:21:54 | PH1 287: "A basic attack is an at-will attack power that everyone possesses, regardless of class." nice...I guess I glossed over that because I knew how basic attacks worked. I see that it's a power with no source attached to it. Maybe I should make a new thread for this question, but if Magic Missle is a range basic attack...does that mean every wizard can use Magic Missle by default? Or do you still have to choose Magic Missle as an at will power? |

That simply means that if you have Magic Missile you can use it as a basic attack when the situation calls for it. Same with other powers that have that designation. TheSeventhStooge... |

If you get 2 standard actions in a turn, you can use the same At-Will 2x. |
| #14farmer42_dupJul 29, 2009 1:24:37 | If you get 2 standard actions in a turn, you can use the same At-Will 2x. With the proper builds at higher levels you can even, in theory, use the same daily or encounter powers. |
| #15XisiqomelirJul 29, 2009 1:31:50 | With the proper builds at higher levels you can even, in theory, use the same daily or encounter powers. Absolutely correct, I was just answering OP's specific question. |
| #16lugubriousJul 29, 2009 1:31:59 | With the proper builds at higher levels you can even, in theory, use the same daily or encounter powers. If his DM doesn't like him using the same at-will twice in a turn, I can't imagine the fit he'd pitch if he tried to use the same daily twice in a turn... |
| #17pbnJul 29, 2009 1:35:13 | With the proper builds at higher levels you can even, in theory, use the same daily or encounter powers. steal time + action point + time stop X2 = FTW! |
| #18greymanJul 29, 2009 2:21:48 | With the proper builds at higher levels you can even, in theory, use the same daily or encounter powers. Or just find a reliable power, like the first level fighter exploits, Comeback Strike and Brute Strike, et cetera. |
| #19zombie_babiesJul 29, 2009 9:54:59 | With the proper builds at higher levels you can even, in theory, use the same daily or encounter powers. You don't even need to be high level. The Power Jewel (AV L5, IIRC) allows you to use a Free Action to regain the use of a spent L1 or L3 Encounter Power after you've reached a Milestone. So, after battle 2, you could use your L1 or L3 Enc, Free Action to get it back via the Jewel and then AP to do it again. Fun stuff. :D |
| #20dunhillJul 29, 2009 9:57:55 | There are some atwills that specify that it can only be used once per round. If it doesnt have that special field, however, it can be used as many times as you can use it per round |
| #21kevrockJul 29, 2009 11:34:06 | My DM and a few people in our group say that there's a rule where you can't use the same power twice in a turn (like using the same at-will with an action point). You may use an at-will power... at-will. That's why its called an at-will power. ;) |
| #22burningroseJul 29, 2009 16:43:55 | Okay thanks, hopefully he won't disagree with the resounding "yes" from these forums. I don't think he will ![]() |

| #24captainfredAug 02, 2009 10:10:40 | What about immediate interupts and reactions? |
| #25KoboldWithTnTAug 02, 2009 13:15:05 | What about immediate interupts and reactions? You can't use those on your turn, and you can only use one of those per round. Player's Handbook page 268 |
| #26captainfredAug 02, 2009 17:25:48 | You can't use those on your turn, and you can only use one of those per round. Thanks for the clarification I knew it was somewhere but couldn't recall. |
| #27dougirwin13Aug 02, 2009 18:58:19 | Even at low levels you might be able to use the same power much more than that! A wizard might use Magic Missile as a melee ranged attack, then an action point to use MM again. Then the wizard could get a couple of opportunity attacks from enemies that flee from adjacent squares and, you guessed it, uses MM once on each of them. All up our theoretical wizard uses MM four times in one round! Quite legit as the rules stand. Maybe not realistic but (I wouldn't use a ranged attack with an enemy in an adjacent square since it provokes opportunity attacks). |
