Despite how it looks, this is a player issue, not a character issue.  Your group needs to take the player aside and tell him he's disrupting the game.  He needs to tone down his character's greed and stop being so argumentative.  If need be, remind him that is his character is as obnoxious as your post implies ... why would the rest of the party choose to associate with him?  If he's that greedy, selfish, argumentative and uncharismatic as you say, it makes perfect sense that the rest of the group would leave him behind and find someone less boorish to hang around with.

Another thing you can do (and which sorts out the RP reasons from any other) is narrate: "We argue for several hours. In the end, the decision is  . . ." and put it to a player vote. Player vote over-rides so-called RP concerns, and all players should respect it. If the player still feels unable to compromise because of some in character issue, then sorry but it's time to roll up a new and less argumentative character.

You don't have to act out all the boring repetitive bits in pointless detail. There is nothing preventing you having a group of characters that dislike each other, bound by a common mission. Then narrate through mundane arguments and have the odd snide remark from the goblin as you each go about saving each others life in battle.

So talk to your cousin out of game and suggest that for the game's sake you skip the boring bits and come up with entertaining banter to replace the arguing. Also, a good reason why the goblin is hanging out with the group and will generally in the end go with the group decision.
