| #1superslinkeyJun 12, 2012 21:23:49 | I was wondering if someone can tell me a "free way" of being different races in d&d I have the older books and the 4th edition set but I really want to be a half elf and I have no money just to buy a book I am only going to use for one thing. can anybody help me update: noone in my group has any of to new books I am more modern then them |
| #2sallaJun 12, 2012 23:17:17 | The half-elf is in the first PHB. Isn't that in the '4th edition set'? Someone in the gaming group has to have that book ... can't you just borrow it, or create the character at their place so you can access it? |
| #3unforeseenJun 14, 2012 13:50:47 | There are so many ways to answer this question. Most of them, WoTC would not like very much. |
| #4sallaJun 14, 2012 15:14:16 | How the hell can you even start to pretend to play 4e if nobody in the group has a PHB? It has the basic rules of the game. |
| #5superslinkeyJun 14, 2012 18:26:00 | I have the 4e book guid that came with the set but there is only halfling, dwarf, elf, human |
| #6randomvirusJun 14, 2012 20:14:45 | If you need to figure out the rules for what you need you have three choices. Buy, Borrow, Steal. You either have some different set of books than the 4th edition Gift Set (which comes with PHB1, DMG1, and MM1, more than enough to start a game.) Or you have them and your comprehension level is tragic. Cowboy up and get what you need. Get your hands on a 4e Player's Handbook or sign up for a DND insider account and use the character builder. |

Copy that material onto a piece of paper or into a notepad file. That will give you the information you need without buying the book, but remember that Dungeons and Dragons is a game made by a gaming company. Without people buying material they have no need or resources to continue to make material, and the game will cease to be. Take the time to look at what is in the books and decide which ones are worth buying and which ones you want to barrow. Most gaming stores allow people to flip through the material as long as you are not using it without purchasing it. You can get the entire group kicked from the store if you are using the material without purchasing it. Once you know what books you want, buy the ones you want from the store at retail price to ensure the existance of the store, and barrow the others from the library. |

I get that they need money but its just a question you can say yes i can help or no your out of luck Wow, I actually am shocked that you would come on here and ask for a "free way" of obtaining copyrighted material, then when others politely reply back to you (and one offers you a very inexpensive alternative), you feel obligated to call them out and throw down in a tantrum? I didn't see one trickle of a tone of sarcasm thrown your way in regards to saying you're 2 years old. You ask a question, you get an answer. In short, with your 3rd post on this board, I would bet the farm so-to-speak that the answer is now "no, you're out of luck". p.s. If this is the way you react to every situation that arises (which I hope this is not the case) but if it is, I would be very reserved to allow you into a game if I were to DM a game that you wanted to participate in. I venture to say, I am not the only one who feels this way. |

Nobody called you an idiot. Someone expressed frustration with the Redbox because they feel like it's misleading in that it's not really quite enough to just buy that, you won't really have everything you'd want to have to play the game. and you know what I hate what this has become its just buy buy buy when can you ever play after youve given all your money away on over priced plastic Breaking News: Businesses in business to sell products, make money. Film at 11. I actully love the redbox because its cheap, comes with everything you need, Except, it would seem, rules for playing a half-elf. and you HAVE FUN. and I dont need you annoying nerds (not all of you but some of you ya I am talking to you rarity dont ask how I know that) treating me like I am 2. This is just tastely ad hominem. That or apparently you know us all so well that you can tell we're nerds. It can't just be that we play D&D, since you obviously do that as well. I get that they need money but its just a question you can say yes i can help or no your out of luck Your question was answered. If nobody in the group owns or has access to either a book with the half-elf in it, or a DDI account, you don't have access to the rules for half-elf. This is a thing that has been true since Gygax published the first edition. If you didn't have access to a given set of rules, or module, or what-not, then you couldn't play it, because you didn't have access to it. It's not a new thing in the slightest. You coming in here and raging just shows how little you know about the game. Frankly you're acting like a teenager who bought something thinking it would contain everything you'd ever want to know about everything, ever, and are angry at the fact that it doesn't, and want all your problems magically solved by the powers of the internet machine. Too bad. If nobody in your group owns the book, or knows someone that does, or has access to DDI, you don't have access to the rules for playing a half-elf. Quit crying, roll something else, and go play the game already since you have "everything you need, and you HAVE FUN" and you don't need us "annoying nerds" treating you like you're 2. Good gaming. |
| #12KruskJun 16, 2012 12:28:43 | I think this thread generally had some solid advice for you. Its a shame you didn't wan't to hear it. |
| #13superslinkeyJun 16, 2012 19:46:16 | I didint say that to all of you just some of you with of you like the secound post I stated that I had older books and I have obiously played before and #5 I get that its a company and it needs to make money but that was to hole reason for this. I called some of you nerds because you annoyed me and acted like I had no idea what this is I under stand that. you keep telling me the same thing I feel that is a responce like you dont think I am uderstanding what your saying, ya its pretty obvious what I need to do you told me that as your answer no need to keep telling me that over and over. I agree this was somewhat helpful but if you cant help me then dont try by giving me the same thing over and over. and I apologize |
