Hey guys. I am stuck in an ordeal here. My Dm is running a game on saturday but I have no clue what to play as. He wants to keep it Core only in terms of classes and races. I need some help on what class to pick. So far we have:

Dwarf Barbarian
Dwarf Fighter
Druid
At least 2 wizards
and two more slots that I have no clue on as of now.

I am was going to be a druid but it looks like we have more then enough magic. So I am unsure of what to be. Alsi it seems I will be the only one who will be trying to play an optimized character. Any help is much appriciated. Thanks in advance.

P.S. Before I forget it is a 32 point buy and we start at level 2 with 900 gold to spend. Thanks.

Looks like you're playing 3e or older. Get a rogue. You don't have anybody there who's good at getting into things and sneaking up on people. I'm no good with point-buys or optimization, but it's been my experience that a party without a rogue often finds itself wishing otherwise.

Bard or rogue.

Both cover the skill monkey role, with bards able to take a little of the party buffing load from the other casters. Still, rogues get my vote. I've always had a soft spot for 'em... :D

yeah I would go with rogue, at least for a few levels, so you can search/disarm traps. I often take make a rogue/sorc so that I have some spell casting ability to help me in various ways. Like take mage armour so you can get +4 to ac and not spend money on armor or cast magic weapon on your weapons.

I don't like point buy myself but i do see why some people like it. If you go with rogue, I would play an elf or a halfling for the +2 dex.

-Be a Druid, then. Don't be shoehorned into being something you don't necessarily want to be for the "good of the party". If you want to be a Druid, then be a Druid. So, there will be two Druids, and two Wizards...So what?

yes but go at a different tangent for the druid if you can, if he is being a buff-debuffer, then play a zilla-druid.

Assuming that you are playing 3rd edition I say play a half-orc rogue.

1) It's different
2) The strength bonus is good for a combat style rogue (carry more loot too)
3) The darkvision is extremely unbalancing for an optimized rogue at low level in 3rd
4) Movement of 30ft (better than the haflings 20ft)

Or you could go with a dwarf rogue

1) It is also different than the norm
2) Bonus constitution (good for a combat oriented rogue)
3) Darkvision
4) Stone cunning helps the rogues search when in a dungeon (and many other areas).
5)Stability is good for anybody
6) Shrug of poisons quite well
7) Bonuses to appraise and craft checks when related to gems, stone, or metal.
8) Hard for giant type creatures to hit you.

Well if the other person is still playing a druid she is going to play a healing druid. I really dun care what i play as long as I am having fun. Seems some things have changes some. We now have:

1 Wizard
1 Dwarven Fighter
1 person who will play what ever role is needed
1 Druid (we think)
and myself.

We lost the barbarian who is not going to travel to the DM's house. I am unsure of the druid for she has changed her mind before on what to play, she was going to play a cleric but changed to druid. I also found out that the DM's son is not playing so there is not going to be a second wizard.

So the options are still open. I do not mind playing druid zilla, and I told the DM that the druid is a powerful class if played right. I also do not mind being rogue for a skill monkey. I did decide not to be the Face of the party.

Thank you all for you input. I am going to ask my DM if I can use feats from non core books. I think he will go for it because he is more concerned with classes and races. I will keep you all informed. More help would be appricated. Thanks.

Edit: PS we are usig 32 point buy and 3.5 Core only rules.

If core only I'd definitely propose rogue if you want to be the party's asset.

Druid or Cleric if you don't want to get foreshadowed by the mary sue. (Which is whoever else is the cleric/druid)

Fighters and Barbarians will no doubt need DM sympathy to keepup. Something like a magic sword that has a ray of enfeeblement like effect when it strikes your foe.

What, does no one like Ranger? If your druid is going to be all about the healing, a ranger might work well.

My other vote is for rogue.

What do *you* as a player want to be able to do?
