Ok, I'm new to the Forums, and I'm looking for help. I've played D&D multiple times, but I'm looking for suggestions on classes. The campaign is starting at level 6, and there are 4 people in it. We have our meat tank, a Human Fighter, a Dwarven Rogue, and an Elf Sorcerer for support. Now I was thinking a ranger... But I want to hit HARD, and be very efficient. I was thinking maybe a Human Fighter, but Range oriented. Maybe a Range Tank, like full heavy armor and Heavy Crossbow. I'm not sure, open to suggestions in the situation. Please help. :D

Druid.   Your animal buddy will hit harder than the fighter, and they have the best spell list in the game and the ever-broken Wild Shape.

Sounds good, I was thinking that too, always been partial. Anything else maybe?

Yeah, don't be afraid to take scribe scroll and make out some scrolls for those odd situations.  The xp really isn't a big deal, since even if the rest of the party gains a level on you, you'll still be the most powerful by an absolutely silly margin.

This applies to any spellcasting class, really.
