| #1Sir-ZalphonJun 05, 2012 8:36:15 | Is it acceptable behavior to NOT heal my party members as a Cleric (if that's what my character would do?) |
| #2sallaJun 05, 2012 10:23:09 | Depends. How fast do you want to get thrown out and replaced by someone who's actually useful, because that's probably what their characters will do? |
| #3Sir-ZalphonJun 05, 2012 18:10:40 | Well, the character is built to do damage (and/or be a necromancer). He's not exactly the greatest, but he will definitely contribute. |
| #4LangrisheJun 05, 2012 19:46:51 | As a chaotic evil character you shall not aid the weak; however, that does not mean you won't aid those who are helping you. A chaotic evil character will "play good" until he has what he needs, normally power. You can heal your party during battle if it means saving your own skin but after the fighting your character would likely refuse to heal anyone who couldn't protect themselves. easydamus.com/neutralevil.html This site is great for player who are not sure how to play their anginment. |
| #5Sir-ZalphonJun 05, 2012 19:55:41 | Thank you, Langrishe. I wasn't sure how a Neutral Evil Cleric (especially one of the Hater of All Life) would view his companions. |
| #6LordOfWeaselsJun 05, 2012 22:48:47 | Thank you, Langrishe. I wasn't sure how a Neutral Evil Cleric (especially one of the Hater of All Life) would view his companions. You are abusing the desire of most players to not be the one to "break the party", and you are not likely to last long. Screwing your character's allies in the team-based adventuring game leads to them kicking out your character, post-haste, and no amount of "but I'm just playing my ALIGNMENT" is going to correct "yes, and we've noticed that you're evil and counterproductive. We're throwing you out and getting a non-evil actually-useful replacement. Welcome to NPCdom, if we don't kill you." |
| #7bom_pendragonJun 06, 2012 1:44:25 | Thank you, Langrishe. I wasn't sure how a Neutral Evil Cleric (especially one of the Hater of All Life) would view his companions. The way I would play it is that the cleric would view the other players as part of his armoury. They are like his weapons, armour and shield. Useful ones he will look after. He will sharpen his sword, oil his armour, mend his shield and heal those who are useful to him. People who do not show their use in battle, well, they will have to find some way of being of use if they want you to expend the divine gift that is yours on their carcasses. He does not value them as living beings and he has no interest in preserving that life, they just so happen to be more useful to him alive than dead at this point in time. If that changes, well, they're already voluntarily failing their will save against your healing spell... who knows when it will be an inflict spell instead. There may come a time when the fighter may serve you better as a shambling zombie than a living being. Until then, you will use Nerull's power to knit his flesh rather than animate his dead limbs. |
| #8Sir-ZalphonJun 06, 2012 9:13:43 | Well the entire party is evil... and thank you as well, BOM_Pendragon. |
| #9Sir-ZalphonJun 06, 2012 9:15:45 | I'll probably heal those who kill more than they require healing. If they're not efficient enough at killing (or serving the party in other ways), I won't be efficient enough at healing them. |
| #10KruskJun 06, 2012 16:22:41 | Depends. How fast do you want to get thrown out and replaced by someone who's actually useful, because that's probably what their characters will do? Thats funny... I'd throw out a cleric weho insisted his role was to heal us and refused to do something useful. That said, Sir-Zalphon don't be a healbot. Not because its fun to be mean to the other players, but because its not paticularly effective. Buff them/you and go to town. |
| #11Sir-ZalphonJun 07, 2012 7:41:14 | That's a good idea, Krusk ![]() In all the games I've played, I've actually never seen a Cleric other than a healbot and I wanted to be a bit of an iconoclast. |
| #12KruskJun 10, 2012 12:32:29 | Be prepared for the other players to complain that you aren't healing them and that you suck. This will go on for 2-3 sessions. Then be prepared for them to complain that you are broken and/or cheating and the DM needs to do something. Ideally it won't happen, but thats been my experience. |
| #13Sir-ZalphonJun 10, 2012 16:33:21 | I've spoken to the rest of the party about it and they're quite okay with it (on paper), but we'll see how it goes in practice. |
