| #1reddaffodilJul 19, 2009 22:31:56 | So my party ran into a Djinni and managed to get him to give us three wishes. The DMPC wishes for a staff of cure or something, and now he's rendered my cleric moot . I'm consdering making a fighter, but I'm kinda ticked that he went and did that. Another problem is that I wished for something stupid and now I'm saddled with... -91,000 EXP, and nothing to show for it. Can I have some help? Please? ![]() |

Your now free to buff the crap out of yourself and get in the mix without the worries of having to keep the party alive. Enjoy it man. Your way better than some dumb ol' fighter. |

| #4CCSJul 20, 2009 2:00:43 | I'd have wished that DMPCs weren't allowed into the party.... Or, if I thought that such a hint might be too subtle; I'd have wished (out loud) that the DM would realize that they simply cannot run the game & continue to enjoy playing in the same manner as the people on the other side of the screen. IE; they do not get to have a character who lvs up, claims loot, does important things, etc. No, what they control is a henchman.... |

However I agree that the spotlight should be shown more on the actual PCs, DMPCs should not be offering advice about puzzles/problems/etc unless the character is directly asked by his/her companions. And even then the DM must be extremely careful regarding character knowledge vs DM knowledge. Also the DM remaining ever vigilant against subconscious favoritism is also needed. In my group DMPCs work out quite well. ![]() |

| #7prince_of_parknessJul 20, 2009 4:09:06 | I'm curious as to what the wording of your wish was. "I wish to level"? DM ruled that since direction and quantity were not stated the PC fell X levels down? Seriously, this game has all the ingridients for a disaster. |
| #8reddaffodilJul 22, 2009 8:59:41 | I'm curious as to what the wording of your wish was. Well, I knew that the Djinni would do something like that so I stated that it shouldn't be cursed, should work right, with no problems when I used it. |

Concentrate on long-term buffs, and either smashing face or throwing out debuffs (depending on your stats). It's *Vastly* more effective. Healing out of combat should be done by items anyway (Cure Light/Lesser Vigor Wands/Belts of Healing). Healing in combat is an absolute last resort tactic that should only be used when there is no other way to prevent a death.. and even then it's rather poor tool for the job. An exception is the Heal spell but even that is situational. I hate to throw out generic handbook links but. This could provide some major insight into what you can do beyond Curing.. Much of it won't apply to you as it deals with long-term character building options, that are really best taken into account from level 1. However there is still a good deal in there about general tactics and approaches that could help you out in the future. EDIT: To me it sounds like you got the better end of the deal! I'd love to play a cleric in a group that never needed healing. A Cleric really shouldn't be spending their spell slots on healing no matter the situation*. There are better ways to contribute to the party. Certainly it might become more of an issue if the DM keeps such a tight rein on items that you can never find 1st-level wands, or low level magic items (Belt of Healing). However at that point you're dealing with someone so controlling healing is probably pointless since he wants you to wind up with the same hit point total no matter what... and it's going to happen one way or another. EDIT: *Unless of course, you get your jollies from playing healy-McBob. In that case go wild. It's certainly a legitimate play style choice, even if it is a rather poor mechanically speaking. |

It'd be much better for you to just pray for combat spells and maybe and then spontaniously cast the heals in 3.5 Since they have the staff now [which depending on how he worded it should've been taken badly also] say F him and let his staff do the work. He obviously doesn't want your healing so don't do it. Let him kill himself. Help the rest of the group if you want. Or just turn completely melee cleric. |
| #11divokejJul 22, 2009 20:47:42 | CODZILLLA!!!!!!! You get to bring the pain now. Head on over to the Character Optimization board and ask for a good damage dealing cleric. You've been blessed friend. |
| #12daidojitaidoruJul 22, 2009 21:01:39 | -91,000 EXP, and nothing to show for it. This tells me that option 1, and the only option that will work due to rule 0, is to find a new GM. |
