Is it different for different levels? Is it different for different classes? |

At levels 1, 3, 7, 13, 17, 23, 27 you will get an Encounter Attack power
At levels 1, 5, 9, 15, 19, 25, 29 you will get a Daily Attack power
You can only have 3 Encounter powers and 3 Daily powers FROM THE ABOVE LEVELS at any given time. The Wizard is a bit different, as I note below.
Utilities and magic items and any other sources of Daily/Encounter powers (such as feats or themes) are completely unaffected by this.
Where it gets tricky are the following caveats:
1. Essentials classes (E-classes) often lack these attack powers, or modify it in some way. It doesn't change the limits, and the class itself will explain how it differs from the usual rule.
2. Wizards, as noted above, pick two powers at each of these levels. However, they can only prepare 1 of those per extended rest, so they still have the same usage limitation as other classes.
3. When you get your 4th Encounter/Daily power, it is not treated like Wizard powers (where you can choose at the beginning of each day what to prepare). In order to take a Level 13 Encounter, for example, you must completely forget a Level 1,3 or 7 Encounter power.
That covers the basics of it. |
| #7FochizzyApr 23, 2014 13:05:47 | As for usage, unless the power says otherwise, you can use each distinct power once before requiring an extended rest. This means several things:
1. You cannot "store" usages. A power is either considered expended or not. If a Daily power is expended, an extended rest (or some other means) is required before you can use it again.
2. A Wizard who has the Level 1 Daily Sleep and the Level 5 Daily Visions of Avarice cannot choose to use Sleep twice, or Visions of Avarice twice. You get one use of each Daily, and as noted, an extended rest or other means are required before you can use the Daily again. There are exceptions to this; powers with the "Reliable" keyword are not expended if all targets are missed, is one such example, as is Rage Strike (a Barbarian power/feature); but this is the general rule. |
| #8thespaceinvaderApr 28, 2014 1:36:32 | It's not one daily per extended rest it's each daily once per extended rest. You get to use as many daily powers as you have, each one only once per extended rest.
(absent any number of exceptions such as Lay on Hands, which is a multiple-use daily, a wide variety of item powers, several stance powers, reliable powers and various ways of recharging powers).
