| #1yamishinobiJun 18, 2008 22:51:19 | i found this group on tuesdays, the dm is about 20, and a few former highschool buddies meet up, heres the problem I asked the dm if we could do RPGA standards for stat generation and hit points.

| #4Chethrok_BloodfistJun 19, 2008 1:42:01 | Leave now. The longer you stay, the more frustrated you will become. You won't be able to change your DM without a degree in psychology, and if he won't change, you'll continue to be disappointed. |

| #6mircolesJun 19, 2008 2:59:53 | Leave them. They'll drive you crazy in the long run. I ran into a similiar group & hoped it would improve with my influence. It didn't, the Dm just drove me nuts with his insane house rules. |
| #7AaronOfBarbariaJun 19, 2008 3:50:46 | Yes to the running. Yes to the finding a new group that is more to your tastes. I too have run into groups like this, but as I'm usually a DM when ever a run into a group... I end up subtly toning down the power level with every new session and every new game. My favorite is to say "okay, we are gonna do a really, really low powered game this time... Everyone gets (3.5 standard) 28 points for the point buy." and then to run the game strictly by the book until the group realizes that it's not so low power after all... and then they eventually get used to it. Well, except that one guy that is like "I can't even get two 18s! How am I supposed to make a character that is worth a ****?!" because he doesn't understand that his character is a member of a team... not a team all by himself. |
| #8generalhenryJun 19, 2008 3:54:06 | Build Pun-Pun. qft |
| #9kelvinaw273Jun 19, 2008 9:17:45 | You have two options: 1) Leave and find a new group. 2) DM yourself, and show them all how it's really done. The flaw in the latter plan is they will have to get over the "But where are my uber-stats" and "what about my uber-sword" first, but stick with it. Use RPGA standards and let it be known that's what you are doing and DO NOT under any circumstances give in to their tantrums. Anyone that storms out is going to look bad enough to the players that stayed ... |
| #10pmurray%40bigpond.comJun 19, 2008 18:26:58 | You joined their group, not the other way around. What's with this "dealing with the dm" business? You think it's your job to blow in from nowhere and tell them they are doing it all wrong? As for the RPGA - the RPGA rules are in place to facilitate a world-wide gaming community. There's no reason on earth why home games need 'em. Having said that: I'd walk after the first session. So should you. Politely "thanks but no thanks". ... hang on ... Oh, It's you, YamiShinobi. Can everyone please forget that I wasted my time replying to this? |
| #11shogungJun 19, 2008 20:11:50 | You keep saying you've got something for me. :D |
| #12shamurai7Jun 19, 2008 22:17:00 | anyone can make up characters with monster stats and uber + 5000 weapons......thats not gaming...... thats compensating. thats like everyone starting a game of monopoly and everyone has a million dollars and everyone owns all 4 railroads and boardwalk..... not much of a game anymore is it. find a new group dude |
| #13etarnonJun 20, 2008 0:01:38 | Just find a new group. You already seem like you have some kind of hostility towards them. And I've been heard to say, more or less just what the DM quoted says. Except it's 3d6 in order, 6 times. If you qual, good. If not, no need to whine, just leave. |
| #14pigknightJun 20, 2008 1:16:57 | They're compensating, like people that use 7+ ft long greatswords, and for the same reason. Get another group. No D&D is better than lame D&D. If you still wanna play but there's not another local group you can learn the rules and become a DM. It's easy once you learn how to make crap up on the spot (all DMs should multiclass crapomancer ASAP). (I went a lil' off track there ) |

| #16meles_melesJun 21, 2008 9:51:08 | In a surprising twist, here's my advice: Leave. Any questions? |
